how to measure cam lift?
Ok, seems easy enough right? I got used cams and I want to make sure i didnt get ripped off. I can't tell what kind they are because there are no stampings on them so obvioulsy they aren't HKS, (seller said buddy club 272's). They don't appear to be stock because you cannot see through them, which means they arent' hollow which the stock ones are supposed to be.
I have a nice electronic caliper here at work so I measured the lobes on each. First cam has a lobe DIA of 30.07mm (+-.02mm) with the top of the lobe to the bottom measuring 35.98mm for a difference of 5.91mm. This cannot be the lift because I believe our stock cams are 9.8? or so mm of lift. Second Cam is 31.07 DIA with a total height of 36.46 for a difference of 5.39, which = 5.39mm. Double this and it is 10.8mm, which seems right for an intake cam. But that would make the other cam bigger, 11.8mm, how can this be? Am I missing something? I thought exhaust lift on 272's was supposed to be about 10.2mm. Thanks for your help.
