Im scared to mod now
i have a 03 VIII that i enjoy very much stock. but everyone knows how it goes, it seems fast as hell at first, but after a few months or so you start to get bored with it and one thing leads to another, you end up broke, divorced, homeless, ex gets the kids, but you have a wicked ride. just kidding i had an 00 Lightning that i paid 20,000 for june 25th, i put 3000 in mods into it. in oct. the motor blew up. didnt have the funds to put a new one in. i sold it last thursday for 7000. minus the 1500 i spent to have the motor pulled before i got rid of it. if you can do basic math you can understand why im a little weary about modding my evo. so my question is not whats the best first mod or the most powerful, but whats the safest mod for the longevity of my evo?

Btw, I'm not joking, although it is kinda funny. My suggestion is to sign up for and participate in a few local autocrosses, then go do a track day at the closest road course in the beginner class. I guarantee there will be no more "boo hoo, my car feels slow now" comments after that education in driving.

i don't get it... you had a lightning, blow that up, get an evo, total that, and now your asking about modding ANOTHER evo? how about do us all a favor and buy a scooter.
in all honesty, just get a honda, or something reliable and DRIVE it. no performance mods, no serious driving, just drive, as in commute to work/school for a bit. Take a few track days... hell even drag race it. you may not be the fastest or the coolest, but you will get experience. with experience you will become a better driver and keep you and everone else on the road safer. THEN and only then upgrade. THAT IS THE SAFEST MOD FOR YOU AND EVERONE ON THE ROAD.

Couple of comments -- yeah, if you wait a month or two, and then drive the Evo, you'll quickly realize what a monster it is (well, I was comparing it to my wife's A4).
I still get a little scared just driving on the freeway after wrecking once at the track. I need to get out there and do some autocross to get a little confidence back.
