Its a risky purchase when buying a used race car. I would only buy it if i could talk with the previouse owner and see waht he did to it and what mods were done. I bought my evo used and found out later that it had many mods done to it before it was returned to stock upon trade in. I fixed everything myself and it runs good now.

No brakes left at 16K! I would be worried, sounds like the car was a track car. i got 40K and still had a little left on the pads. I would look elsewhere.

my first set of pads were gone within 4000miles and I didn't track it. just went. I'm below 16k and I'm on my 3rd set of pads. rotors are just about ok though.

I think you should just hold off and save some more money and buy an 06. I don't think anybody babies their car, so in order to avoid future problems, just buy a new evo.

im almost positive the owner was a girl...when it comes to the car we took it by a mitsu and just wanted to know the history of it and see if they could check it out real quick and they said it would cost 75 a hour so we said **** it...i got a buddy who went to wyotech and has a pretty good knowledge on cars and he said the overall car is pretty nice and runs good...also the car has 4yr/36mi warranty so im good to go on that for another year or so. also how i said the price is 18k...well i had a buddy go there today and they told him they want 22k now...they are still giving it to us for 18k but they are asking more now for everyone else...i really dont like buying used cars either because i havnt had too good of luck with them but the price is pretty nice....and with it being under warranty still that helps me feel better about the purchase also...thanks for the comments and help.

also right now im driving a caddy cts and its ok but not fun to drive...plus my warranty is up on it .....i went from a 350z to the caddy and carried over some negative equity...with this car it would basically eliminate my negative equity and if i wanted to im sure i could go and trade this in real quick and get a new evo and it would eliminate my neg equity.

I don't know if I missed this info anywhere, but did you say this evo is being sold at a mitsu dealer or third party dealer. Make sure that the warranty is still effective for this car, don't take the word of the salesman. I would check the vin and make sure that mitsu doesn't have it voided as someone already said. Just be carefull, if the deal looks too good to be true, it usually is.

I was told that second owners don't get the full warranty. So my 2005 has a 10yr/100000 warranty but if I sell it the next owner will not get the same warranty. I think it's in our manual but i'm not sure and too lazy to look it up. Only the original owner gets the full warranty.

Does the car have a boost gauge? Check that. Alot of people remove their boost controllers and don't put back the stock boost lines, causing the car to peak at 11psi. It can easily be fixed with a mbc or the stock lines from mitsu.

Yeh, confirm that the warranty is transferable. Another possiblity is to ask for a 30 day guarantee that the car will survive. If they are confident that the car is a capable vehicle they will be willing to offer you this at least in some way shape or fashion. Couldn't hurt to ask.

You've heard about Asian mums right? Well I LIVE in Asia. And here people will drive voluntarily at 40-50mph on highways and around 25-30 on other roads. So when you regularly drive a car that can do 165+ on the same road people drive at 45. It sucks. Really sucks.
