GSR is the Japanese name for the Regular VIII which is called here. In America, its simply the VIII, in Japan its GSR. People who own evos call it the GSR to distinguish the model they have as there is RS and MR. RS is generally a track built car with weight savings which is why there is no luxury however it is street driven by many people on this board. The Regular VIII or GSR is a model that comes with all the usual options like your civic has. The MR keeps luxury to a minimum with simply AC, ABS, Power Locks and Windows, and a simple 140 Watt Mitsubishi CD Player. It also comes with a gauge package. The MR is the most expensive but the big bonus is the 6 speed transmission and Bilstein Shocks which helps smooth out the ride without giving up performance. The VIII MR are probably going to be the TOUGHEST to find since they are a limited production (only 1000 VIII MRs in the USA) and people tend to hold on to them. To Be clear on all the differences..heres the list

RS-Aluminum roof, No Large Rear Wing, No Power Locks/Windows, No A/C, No Radio, No ABS, 5 speed, Only Available in Two Colors, White or Red, No Color Keyed Door Handles, No foglights nor HIDs.
GSR-No Aluminum Roof, Large Rear Wing, Power Locks/Windows, A/C, 140 watt CD Player, ABS, 5 Speed, Available in Rally Red, Tarmac Black, Blue By You (2003/4 Model), Electric Blue (2005 model), Weightless White (03/04 model), Wicked White (05 model), Lightning Yellow, Apex Silver. They Offer SSL as a package which Adds Leather Recaro Seats, A power sunroof, HID Headlamps with foglights, and a 315 watt infinity sound system with a 10 inch subwoofer in the trunk.
MR-Offers Everything in the GSR except SSL package. In Addition to GSR w/o SSL, MR adds a 6 speed transmission, Bilstein Shocks, Vortex Generator to produce more downforce, an aluminum roof, exclusive BBS lightweight wheels and HIDs. They are available in 4 colors, Apex Silver, Rally Red, Graphite Grey Metallic which is exclusive for MRs, and Wicked White.
Prices are in least to most expensive order-RS, GSR, GSR w/SSL, MR

EDIT: sorry, spoke too soon. thanks
Cause it's what they called it in Japan. Like 240sx they called it silvia in Japan. RX7 they called it FC, FD....etc.

In your case, just get a GSR, you'll be happy with it.

Have you driven one yet? If not, get yo money straight before you go drive one cause you gonna want it so bad compare to that civic.

You should be very happy, usually members would flame the sh*t out you for starting such a thread in EVO General. I actually clicked on this thread to get a couple of laughs, but members are actually answering your questions. Could it be, evom.net members becoming nicer

or it could be me not being as stupid as you would think i would be, being a veteran of 7thgencivic.com i know what to say and what not to say to get people to answer your questions and not flame you.... thats probably it. thanks a lot for the input guys, no i have no driven one yet, im kinda afraid to because i know ill want it to bad... i plan on test driving one next time i see one at a car lot, but they arent common at dealerships around here. no mitsubishi dealer in the area, and the subaru dealership has a few but wont let anyone test drive anything cuz someone crashed a corvette of theirs and another person totalled an STi of theirs.

What are the downsides of the evo? what should i know before i look deeper into the purchase? besides the clutch issues... ive heard allllll about that ****.

The clutch is not such an issue unless you plan to mod, which you do plan to do, so be careful and plan on upgrading it.

No, you just got lucky that people were nice. Your question has been asked a ton of times and is definitely not worthy of Evo General (we have a newbie forum). You did not search, because you definitely would have found everything you wanted to know if you actually tried. What you probably did was click "search" then type in a word and got 500 threads, then quit. You have to do advanced search and play with the specific parameters to get exactly what you want. AFter that, it's a breeze, but people are too lazy to actually try hard. Also, all of this information is available on the Mitsu website in great detail if you'd just go look (Google is great).

Personally, I prefer the MR, but it's all up to your tastes and your modding plans.

not true brother. its the exact same search used on 7thgencivic.com and i know how to use it, the problem is i didnt know what i was even looking for. all i could search for was "differences between GSR and RS" and all i came up with was differences between the VIII and the IX, or specific details about the 9. i tried.

When you buy your Evo dont buy an Extended Warranty if you plan on Modding your Evo before your Warranty is Up. I didnt do it but Im just saying its a waste if you are modding because most Mitsu Dealership will void warranty on the spot when they see your car modded. Don't drop your clutch if you plan on Launching, it will mess up your drivetrain. Just because you drive an Evo doesnt mean you are invincible when your turning and stuff...too many accidents with brand new cars! If you plan to wreck it, Save the front end So i can Buy it. Thanks.

Also, in addition to being called the GSR, the regular Evo VIII is sometimes called the "straight 8".

The website that we kept telling you to go shows you the difference between the different models. Even if it's a VIII or IX. Like I posted before in previous thread. Minor differences but you get the answer you were asking.

He doesn't have that option. We're talking about USDM Evos. Remember, there is no real IX MR, which is why you have that stuff on a GSR.
