I now what you mean about the turbo kits for the cars but they cost alot of $ to mod.
I have a 97 GTI vr6 with the Eip turbo kit, tec3 and all, the car is fast at 30 psi and made 542.7 whp but it is front wheel drive .
If I was to turbo the R I would go Eip again. I to have have been to waterfest the past 7 years. Just sick of the VW's. I still I think I'll get the EVO.
Thanks to everyone for the words and I know what you mean by interior quality, the EVO was really cheap compared to the R.

Former owner of a 01 GTI 1.8T with APR Stage 3 and all the goodies. Don't regret getting rid of it at all, traction/handling and way more power potential on the stock block. Oh and did I say cheaper to modify!

Evo's are very reliable and with your background it sound slike you know how to take care of a car. I'd suggest you get a SSL package if you want to maintain that "luxury" feel

Ahh a thread I can relate to.. Yea you'll lose the interior quality when you switch from the R32 to the Evo, but you wont even notice it. I thought it would be something I'd have to "deal" with when I traded in my R32 for an Evo, but honestly the pro's of the Evo FAR outweigh the luxury differences between the two.

Get the 5 spd, with SSL, and save the extra cash you would spend on a MR and use it for mods.

I went from:

If you want to do this, I would do it before the next R32 comes out (or whatever they'll call it, R36?). I would expect the 1st gen Rs to take a big hit when the new version is out. You gotta love a car you can drive for a year or so and actually make money on, but I'm not sure that will hold after you can get a new and improved version at the dealer for a decent price.

Nice.

I did a similar thing.

From Nogaro Blue S4:

to......

Rally Red Evo:

JUST CLICK TO ENLARGE.

VW/Audi parts are so much more expensive than Evo parts.

Let alone working on the engine/car itself which is a PITA.

I wish I could put the Evo drivetrain into the B5 chasis S4; that would be a great car

I had a '02 S4 (expensive VW), with all of Apr's mods and tons of suspension mods too, and told a local mitsu salesman that I couldn't be impressed with a Jap car. Needless to say he got one of his customer's to come by my work and take me for a ride and my quiet, leathered, no attention getting Audi fell to the wayside very soon after. I love the looks and feel (after some mods) of my Evo. For the money...so much fun, and the format has so many tuners that don't cost VW/Audi money. YEH

I had an APR chip with multiple programs: valet, stock, 93 octane, 94 octane, and also a security lockout mode.

If I kept my S4 I think would have changed to the GIAC chip. It seems to provide more power than the APR chip.

The only reason I went APR was beacuse of the cool security lockout mode and the stealth of the side stalk activation.

Ain't that the truth... Catback's for the R32 were around $800-900, which is what I paid for a TBE for the Evo.. Dont even think about buying cam's either! $1200 + shipping from Europe

I must say that I would go with the MR over the IX w/ SSL...When you add the SSL package to the IX it makes the jump to an MR only a $2k difference. Now that I've owned both a GSR and an MR, I definitely think the MR is worth it (especially in the IX's). The SSL package is a total rip-off...plus the leather Recaro's aren't as nice, and the sound system sux (not much improved at all). The only other thing you get with the SSL is the HIDs (which are no longer stock on the GSR).

The 6MT is a MUCH BETTER tranny than the 5MT. The 5MT started grinding for me at around 20k mi, and that was just from daily driving (only one track event). The 6MT is much smoother and really helps keep the evo in the boost range. Plus the lightweight aluminum roof lowers the center of gravity 2 inches! Not to mention: BBS wheels (sexy!), Gauges, Bilstein suspension (much better than the stock suspension), etc. Go with the MR!!!

Plus, unless you're paying cash for the car, then the argument that you should save the extra money for mods is a mute point. Because you're getting a loan anyway! Duh. The only difference is if you can afford the downpayment, monthly payment increase.

You will be happy with the Evo for sure! I never regret buying mine and neither do the other 4 people at the shop here. There are 8 guys that work here and there are 7 Evo's between us. Let me know if you have any questions on the car or feel free to stop by and BS.

Take care

I also traded my .:R for an EVO IX , main reason for the trade was $$$$ i'ts just too expensive to mod the .:R.
FI : EIP stg1 turbo 7k + install.
Streetwerke stg1 turbo 8500 + install.
VF stg 2 S/C 6000 + install.
Exhaust 750
Haldex ecu 899
ECU flash :399

EVO
Ecutek + TBE around 2k if not less.

I did love my vdubb it drove really nice, sick interior , but I'm more into performance and having to fork out at least 7k for a minumum of 290whp and 260wtq (VF stg2) is just not justified for me personally.
