Regarding the topics, I think it is not related to Evo at all even though you have an Evo and looking for alternatives.
This is the second thread which is not related to Evo. People need to think about their purpose of the thread before putting up their questions.

so you want to go 12.?? for cheap, well +1,000,000 for the 5L fox mustang. i will lay it down for you real fast .
first off look for a notch back 1988-1991 (can usualy find some old cop 5.0 that will work and they only wiegh 2,700 lbs) and if you cant find one then go with a hatch (hatch LX wieghs in around 2,900 lbs). also the AOD is the tranny to have if you want to be consitant thogh the stock AOD leaves something to be desired. ok now that you have got the car you will want to slap in a 4.10 rear end gear, intake manifold, cam, throtle body, long tube headers, ignition and distributer, heads, shift kit, stall converter, and finish it off with some slicks and 50/50 front 90/10 rear struts and shocks. this car should be right around 300whp 380wtq and will go mid 12s all day.
so lets break down the prices shall we
4.10 rear gear $185(ford racing set)
intake manifold $300-$600 upper and lower with gaskets (price will vary with brand)
cam $90-$180
throtle body $150-$200
long tube headers $100-$400 for the set
ignition and distributer $400
heads $500 and up
shift kit $60
stall converter $200 and up
slicks $300 for the set
struts and shocks $400 and up
this should bring you to a grand total of aprox $3065 in mods. that leaves you $2,000 for the car. i am sure you can find one for that price np and this car will not let you down. good luck

Why not just save the money and learn to drive your car properly? I reaize there is wear and tear, but the clutch wll absorb a lot of the abuse if your not side stepping the clutch at 7K!! There are many WRX guys drag racing with hundreds of passes on the "glass trannies". Its all about the driver.

Personally, I'm not dragracing my '05 MR. It's staying basically stock and it's been no trouble at all. There is a lot to be said for not altering the car and treating it with care...

Find an old early 70's Plymouth Duster or Chevy Nova. There are engine and drivetrain parts up the zing zang available for either car. You could probably build an 11 second muscle car for $5k IMHO. Plus you don't ever have to smog it.

a civic is the perfect vehicle, a couple friends of mine built a 92 - 95 civic hatchback for $5600 and it just got kicked off the track last weekend for running a 10.4@ 136
get a 92-95 civic shell - $1000
strip it - free
gsr b18 motor, tranny - $1000-1500
big turbo (gt35r)- $1500
nitrous (to spool the turbo faster)- $500
AEM EMS- $1000
