The Sports Authority has the Escort Passport 8500 x50 Radar and Laser Detector (Red Display) for $307 - 20% off any item = $246 with free shipping. One of the best radar/laser detectors out there; an essential for road trips. [Review : BizRate]

The Valentine is very good, but becoming outdated. The 8500 X50 (and it's brother the Bel Rx65) has advantages over the Valentine, but also some disadvantages. Check out http://www.speedzones.com/

Any of those three is a damn good detector. If legal in your state, buy a laser jammer as well.

The Valentine is constantly being updated. When there are upgrades available you just send it in to Valentine and your back on the cutting edge. Besides its the only one that is directional.

Valentine 1 - PERIOD.

The people that are going off on how great the Passport and Escort are, either have never owned a Valentine One, or didn't understand the concept of it.

I can't explain how many times mine has saved my ***.

just got my V1 last week. wouldn't trade it for anything. the directional arrows are sooo useful for discerning false alarms from cops. you just can't understand this unless you own a V1.

for instance, if i'm approaching a bank, the bank's alarm will sometimes trigger a false K-band and the V1's forward arrow lights up. when i get next to the bank, the side arrow lights up and when i pass it the rear arrow lights. it's incredibly accurate and useful.

You must not know a thing about the V1, i have the 1.8 POP 2 and it's the only way to go V1 all the way don't wast your Money on anything else spend the extra 150 and get the best.
