No, I do not recommend that you buy a modded/used 03/04. Those are the worst years, have the most problems, and will likely be abused if already modded.
The best money-wise would be a NEW 05 that has still not been sold (can get for a huge discount plus incentives) or a new 06 (try to get invoice).

The only thing I don't understand is the 5 speed gets mpg than the 6 speed according to the window sticker. It really doesn't matter since it seems I can never get the highway mpg that Mitsu feels people should get. Dam boost!

Again, it isn't the transmission that is getting the MPG, its the car. Maybe a MR has worse aerodynamics then the rest because of the zero lift kit, V-gen, etc. Perhaps if they put a 6-speed in an RS it would get the best mileage.

I'm pretty much set on getting a IX because the front, seats, lights and overall look of the car is more attractive to me. And having a little bit more power doesn't hurt either!!
I really love that Electric Blue color, I think it's gorgeous. I would get another black car, but I learned my lesson with mine!!! Although black with 5% tint on all windows looks sexy, it's way too much work to keep it looking nice. The best price I could get around here was like 30, 900 or so with certain incentives, and what-not. The salesman was cool though, and told me if I was going to mod the car, make sure to take everything off before bringing it in for service!!
