More power with a BC?

Right now the power mods on my '05 RS are a full TBE, drop in filter, JDM MR BOV, and an EcuTek flash and dynotune. The car put down 243whp/255wtq with a 91 octane tune on the Gruppe-S dyno. Not bad considering how stingy their dyno is, but I'm wondering if there's another 10-20whp in the car if I install a boost controller, a Walbro, and increase boost slightly?

BTW...I'm trying to hold off on cams until I've done all the other bolt-ons.

No offence, but I could've sworn 248 whp is what a stock 05 puts out!

Not on the Gruppe-S dyno. The '03 and '04 models put down about 210whp stock. The '05 models put down about 220whp. My car probably would do somewhere between 280whp and 290whp on a Dynapack.

Anyways about the boost controller?

WEll I'm assuming you got a boost control flash, so really the BC will probably increase the area under curve power beyond 5 to 6k, where the taper will start to happen, which would otherwise be held off longer with a BC. . .I would say tops 10whp, but you'll feel it more than seeing it on a dyno. . .are you planning on staying "Mitsu serviceable?" If so, maybe stay away from the MBC (those are pretty easily noticeable!)

you're dynoing pretty damn low though, I put down 230's in stock trim with a simple drop in, I was probably at 220awhp stock. . .so, umm, this is weird. . .but dyno's are dyno's, real world 1/4 are better indicators of your power. . .

Yes gruppe-S does have a low reading dyno, and on most dyno jets, you'd see around 280WHP. Regardless, I still think a gain of only 28WHP is kind of low, with your mods. I would have expected more like 40WHP gain. Perhaps a boost controller could help you achieve these gains. With your mods and a boost controller@21PSI I would expect around 260-265WHP on gruppe-S dyno. Some 2005s can make more, but not all EVOs are created equal.

I was in the same dilemma and I put the mbc on. I felt a noticeable difference up top. Car is much more enjoyable now. I recommend it.

I just took mine in for service and had to take my MBC out. I totaly feel the difference between a mbc and the stock controller. Mostly up top when the stock one starts to taper. boost also comes on faster with the MBC. the other thing i noticed is with my stock controller i get more spikes when i hit full boost. with my mbc it hits 21 and stops. MBC totally worth it

$65 dollars for a MBC is the best first mod you can get, definately agree with it that it will be a difference like night and day

What is the boost currently set to via the EcuTek flash? Obviously you'll make more power with more boost ... but that can be achieved by modifying the boost tables via EcuTek or via MBC. However, you may need to adjust/remove the restrictor pill to achieve desired target boost with the stock boost solenoid and vacuum lines ... the tuner should handle this for you in my opinion.

Where is it located?

The boost restrictor pill has been removed. I'm not sure what boost levels the car is running because the dyno chart doesn't have a plot for it and they didn't record it for me anyways.

So maybe I should be looking to get more power with my current setup rather than adding an EBC. With just a cat-back exhaust and Ecutek tune I put down about 235whp on the Gruppe-S dyno. Mike thought the stock cat could have been prematurely failing and consequently holding the car back more than usual. I put in a Tanabe 70mm DP and a 3" high-flow cat and brought the car back for another flash and tune. I picked up 13whp/22wtq. Maybe I have a boost leak. Damn...when will lady luck bless me with a factory freak?
