Differences with the 2003 to 2006 Evo

Im curious about the differences between the Evos in these years 2003,04,05,06...
Technically not cosmetically
ie- drivetrain and engine
things like differentials gearing
compression boost ECU management
I tried searches but came up nothing

Im considering getting an 04 Used RS and was wondering if they are all identical or not...or just go for an 06 Evo IX

Dude, you are thinking too much. Just GET a EvoIX
The EVO IX has a Bigger Turbo then the 05 VIII that was better then the 03/04 EVOs
The IX is powered by the MIVEC 2.0 and the 5spd trans is better then the past years.
The seats more plush looking black on black.

dude, get the IX, its so worth it...larger turbo, better seats and slightly tweaked interior, it has the acd and lsds the 05s have, tuning yields better results, cleaner front end, mivec...

go for a IX, you wont regret it

ok well then what about the 06 RS

as opposed to the evo ix
its lighter and doesnt have all the bells and whistles I need
its going to be a track car that i daily drive...
Im not worried about seats and stuff
aside from the 6 speed in the MR
are they still pretty much the same
ie- lsd, which i may or may not swap out for a kaaz unit which i love so much
things like thatim not thinking too much
Im thinking along the terms of making a track car with a purpose
and I have to stay within class rules on th is build
so i dont get classes in with cars like retired daytona porsches and WSC cars again

The search using:
Key Word(s): differences, IX, VIII
Forum: Lancer Evolution Forums and child forums
found these threads in the results (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/se...archid=1994097
) for me:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ht=differences
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ht=differences

Oh, and of course I'm sure the Mitsu site would be of help:
http://www.mitsubishimotors.com/MMSA...pecs.jsp?t=all
as would edmunds.com, cars.com and others that let you compare different years to each other.

The 1-4 gears in the 5 spd evo 9 is very close to the 1-4 gears in the 6 speed evo 8 and evo 9.

So a 6 spd may not be as usefull unless you plan to race hard above 100mph.

there is a ton of info out there. but do what i didnt and get the 9. i love my 05 but if you want the best the evo has to offer the 9 is the way to go. no reason to look back but here is a quick summary
03-04
pretty much the same...some transmition issues but has tsb to fix problem
05 add ssl package (option) acd, fixed most tranny issues, no intercooler squirter
06 best evo available, add mivec, better turbo, nicer interior

Hope that helps a little

For the track I would get the EvoIX RS. It's not as heavy and the new 5speed pulls like mad.

03-05 EVO 5 Speed Owners = 06 EVO 5 Speed Owners
