The way it works for a dealer that sells below invoice is that the factory sells the dealer the car at invoice and then they give them incentives to sell it. It usually ends up being $200-$500 depending on the current offerings from the factory. There are times that making the sale means breaking even, ie no profit. But the incentives help to pay the salesman, some towards advertising etc. Especially on cars like the Evo.

So if a dealer sells a car for, say, $1500-$2000 below invoice because they are desperate to get rid of it, then are they definitely losing money? Also, will a dealer ever sell a car for a loss in order to make a year-end sales quota? I've always wondered about this...

Offer $1500 - $2500 under invoice! All they can say is no! I would just go buy an 06!

Each case is different but overall the idea is to make a sale and make a little $$ in the process. I personally do not know of a time here, that they have lost $$ but I do know of a few where it was a nothing deal where we didn't make or lose anything. Sometimes that is the only way to move a perticular car. Most of the time the best situation for a customer is on an over age used car. That is when the best deals can be made. Or if there are huge factory rebates on a popular new car. Then they figure that they can make it up in the # of cars sold. Usually the factory incentives are set up such that the dealer doesn't lose worst case but makes a little in the best case.

Even I would spend the difference and get the 06 and I hate the 9s looks, but if they were both sitting in front of me with 500 dollars difference in price, I'd buy the 9 ('06) and then figure out a way to trade someone with an 8 front bumper for mine.

That is unless you got a SCREAMING deal on the 05. Even at 32K I dont consider that a screaming deal.
Well I picked up my 05 GSR w/ SSL brand new off the showroom floor almost 2 months ago for 29k. I couldn't beat that deal. I strongly considered getting the 06 but I couldn't afford an 06 with an SSL pakage and if i'm gonna pay 30k for a car it better have leather, a sunroof, and a bad *** sound system to say the least. But when it came down to it the 06's do have a slight bit more power but I just don't like that damn front end and I strongly prefer the 03-05 Enkei's to the 06's.

That price is a little too high.
Hec the dealer I got my evo 8 from 2 years ago has a 05 with 5200 miles used from a local older guy for $30, 000
I would offer a grand total of 31 000 because they need to get rid of it! Thas after including free oil changes and maint. for 60k
Hec I basically did the same on my 04 when the just came out and it was bby ssl

Nice price you got there for 29k. I paid 1 % over invoice, but I got what I wanted for my trade in.

Very close, but it's all about home equity line of credit so your interest is tax deductible leaving you to bargin with cold cash

I dont know how everyone can just tell this guy to go buy an 06. There are NO cams yet and NO good engine management. The 06 is VERY unproven still.

So saving approx .33 cents of every interest dollar paid is better than paying 0 interest?
