from 330 to evo? hell yeah!
I have an 02 330 ci and have been considering getting an evo for quite some time now. I am completely new to this forum so If i'm asking my next questions incorectly or am in the wrong section, please no flames just yet. Here are 3 options for me. 03 WW for $ 20.000 with 12 000 miles. (practically new).
05 mr for $ 27,000 with low miles
new ix for $ 31 000...
I would obvoiusly rather a ix but for a $ 10 000 price diff from the 03... i don't know. is mivec and a revised front and misc worth all that. Also, 20 000 is much easier on the wallet. help me out guys.

I also have a 01 330i Dinan3 and ESS supercharged. Last summer I bought an 03 evo and had some of the same considerations you did. All gone now! I paid 21,000 for the 03 and for a good reason. (Oh, BTW this is a company car and could have bought a new one without a second thought.) I cannot stop modding this car! And hands down, you could not give me another car. In my opinion if you plan to mof this car at all, save your money and get an 03.

does the front lsd and the the added horsepower and torque on the 05 viii make such a dramatic difference from the 03. I mean, i can afford upper 20's but will be much more comfortable in the lower. Can someone out there tell me an 03 is great buy if i'm sure it had low miles and wasn't abused?

I myself also have a 02' 330 ci, which is a different car than the evo. If you are buying the evo to mod than go with the IX, they are very mod friendly. Also the attention you will be getting in the evo is the TOTAL opposite you get on the 330. When I drive my 00' Maxima SE, its normal attention, most of the time NO attention. When I drive my 01' S4 or my 02' 330 ci, its all attention, hmm... nice cars!! When I drove the evo or my 92' Eclipse GSX, its all about "Look at that RICER"!!! LOL, but its all what you want type of thing.
Payment wise the IX is worth the money, specially if its new. People are having tremendous luck with it. The 05 MR is also a very good option, you can do alot more with the MR than with the 03. Either way if you are keeping your 330 ci and buying the evo for modding, then you should be fine!!!
Good luck

Btw, taenive and wizzo are wrong about the exhaust cam and tune. That simply is not true.
However, you CAN get 330whp with exhaust, MBC, and a flash.
The difference between the 06 and 03 are HUGE. A 03 that is 3 years old and that is the most problematic year is not worth messing with despite the 11k difference. Whatever you do, be sure to get an 05 or 06, because they are superior. Get an 03 only if you are going to totally strip it down and build it full-bore race car.
