Dude, I've owned both. If they were the same exact price, I'd get another STi. However, you can get base Evo's like $2k cheaper...

I had an opportunity to take a ride in a 300whp 05 "GSR." We went around the block with multiple WOT pulls. It felt very different from the 300whp STi I was in. When the STi hit, the turbo hitting was very noticeable, stuck you to your seat HARD, and PULLED very hard. The EVO on the other hand didnt feel the same. It did not feel like that STi at all. I talked with the owner afterward and he said that it is because the hp is top end, not like the Subaru's low end. Im looking for that initial pounding into the back of your seat at 20 mph on. The EVO seemed to be missing thatI know Subarus arent known for top end. It seems like I like the low end more.

Should I be more interested in the Subaru then because I am not interested in higher speed accelleration but lower speed?? Or maybe did the driver really not go WOT or pushed it? Will 300whp feel the same in the STi as in the EVO? If not, what will the difference be. Im not sure what I want now...Thanks!

Yes, but that has nothing to do with the evo, lol. Like I said rules are rules and we all know that no one on this forum breaks rules, right?

Right. (Godbless, "evo8rcr")

I respect you all the way, "lexat20". What's yours is yours.

I, for one, wouldn't mind letting someone drive mine. However, this test driver would have to understand fully and comply with all my set rules. (You reading this, "2theMAX"? )

Some insight

I presently own an 05 STI and an 06 Evo mr 9 and they are not as comparable as some people think. If you aren't going to race around, the STI feels faster. It has more pull down low and is easier to drive. The Evo on the other hand needs to be revved a bit more to equal the speed the STI offers at lower revs.
When it comes to handling, both are good. But the Evo is the better handler. It feels more like a race car. The STI handles like a sports car, the evo like a race car.
If you look at the performance numbers available, both are about dead even in speed. It comes down to feel and what you are going to do with the car. If you are going to mod at all, the evo is the one to go with. My son has an 03 and has 340 hp at the wheels with just minor mods. It blew my STI away! I now have the Evo 9 and will start modding that slightly.
Reliabiltiy wise, they both are great. My son's 03 has never had issue, not one. Still on the stock clutch with 40,000 miles and over 300 hp.
Good luck!

Who cares about this feeling of being dumped back into the seat. The car is fast, no doubt about it. Honestly sometimes I think about it when I go WOT in 2nd doing 15 or 20 mph. Yeah it does feel like it is throwing back into the seat, but then I look at how fast I am beginning to move up the road.

Thanks to people like you we can have the best feedback. I think the gear ratios on the STI(even shorter than the 9 MR), the less revin engine which translate into sooner lower torque output , great displacement and smaller turbo makes up for that so called"low end power sensation"

would you agree on my comments?

Hey guys, anybody here saw the Best Motoring DVD about the Evo IX? You should watch it, it will help you decide. They tested the evo 9 GSR and Evo 9 RS side by side with the evo 8 mr, and STIs. The evo 9 won on all categories!

No, I have not. I wish racingflix.com would host that vid' or portion of the DVD, like they have with other BM vids. I'm sure it's a good watch.
