I used to own an '04 SRT-4. Out on the open roads it could pull on an '03/'04 Evo VIII stock for stock. When I got my '05 RS (100% bone stock) I ran my buddy's '04 SRT-4 w/stage 1 and 2.5" CB exhuast from about 50mph to 110mph and beat him everytime. It was pretty close until he had to shift. The Evo has a higher redline so I would just keep pulling (even with the crappy stock ECU boost taper at around 5.4k RPM's). I never lost ground. I would have beat a stock SRT-4 worse so, needless to say, the more powerfull IX would make quick work of a stock '03 SRT-4 even out on the highway.

I really hate people at work taht talk smack and don't back it up. That guy will probably never race you, because he has too good a time pissing you off, and he doesn't want to lose that ability. This guy at my work kept thinking he was foot race faster than me, and I ran a 4.5 40 time between HS and college. I even said "OK, lets put sign paychecks on that curb over there and who ever gets there first keeps them both"... of course he didn't do it, never did. That guy is just running his mouth, so I wouldn't take him at all seriously unless there was a defined plan on a race with time, place, etc.

 

Listen to me, man. Take this advice, please. I have an Evo IX GSR, as well. I've raced an SRT-4 with AGP WGA, K&N Typhoon Intake, and Stage 1. From a roll, he has a chance to take you. I did a roll from 20 mph against him and he got me by half a car. I'm bone stock though. From a dig, I ripped him a new ******* twice. Just run him from a dig, don't let him pull that roll bs. You can't roll at a dragstrip anyway.

 

Listen Im not much of a racer either, but I know cars and I know what they can hold. Like that one dude said just laugh at him and walk away. Seeing his reaction is more priceless then wasting Plugs, clutch, gas, and tire tread. You will spend more money on fixing your car than he will put down. Now if you are talking about pinks HAHA than SMOKE DAT FOUL!!! You could easily garage the EVO(worth more) and race out the SRT. There's always going to be one dude/gal out there who hate Evo for bandwagon reasons. You and I both know they are good cars and thats all that matters. You mention he giving Evo a bad name at the Carmax....well out do him, make sure yours stays looking nice so when someone listens to him you can point at yours. I have been a die HARD Mitsubishi Fans since 97 when my brother pick up a nice Silver GS eclipse. I have a room in my house dedicated to the Evolution from its birth to the 9. Its pointless to race him for little or nothing.

The way my 05 EVO is set up and tuned it'll rip the modded SRT4 I previously had to shreds....

Yesterday I went out to an open 1/2 mile long road that goes thru a forest and did a 20 mPH 1st gear roll..... I never in my life felt this kinda acceleration, plus my buddy who has ridden in my SRT4 also was highly impressed by the power...

 

I raced and beat a modded SRT at the track when I was stock, twice.

He had BPU,slicks,100 octane and 20 pounds of boost

 

No doubt, i still consider myself a amature driver and with stock suspension and street tires i usually will NEVER loose against a Modded SRT with slicks and coilovers unless he is in Pro class...

 

no doubt you'll kill him on a race.

 

I traded an '05 SRT-4 for my Evo VIII. Reason was I hated the lack of traction.

I think that motor is every bit as powerful (if not more so) but he'll sit and spin while you dust his sorry butt.
