Is the EVO IX the most powerful 4-Cylinder ever?

A co-worker yesterday asked me how much HP my EVO had at the flywheel. I told him it is rated at 286HP but in reality it probably is making over 300HP. My co-worker then said "Really? A 4 banger making that much power stock, it must be the most powerful 4-Cylinder ever?" I shrugged it off, but started thinking about it, and really couldn't come up with a more powerful 4-Cylinder off the top of head. The STi/STI is rated at 300HP but it does not dyno as high as the IX. So is there a more powerful 4-Cylinder out there?

I know they make blower kits for the S2K but thats only good for another 100hp, why don't they make turbos can the engine not handle it?

Yah, but look at the torque, a pathetic 162 ft-lbs. And no, the S2000 has a really, really high stock compression ratio, something like 13 or 14:1.

no idea....thats what kept me away from a s2k....if i found 50k and wanted to make it fast it would be stuck at 400hp lol....only cause that happens once a month, find money like that..if the motor was rebuilt im sure it can be a beast..but i dont know anything about that car to give factual information

cheers

Well I know the S2000 is probably the most powerful NA 4-Cylinder, but it still isn't the most powerful overall. I'd rather take a turbo 4-Cylinder over a maxed out NA 4-Cylinder that only makes 162lb/ft of torque

s2k compression is only 11.1:1

honda is a tree hugging company, they stay away from force induction engine because they are not gas efficient or environmental friendly and there's also the reliability issue. they are releasing their first turbo engine state side in the new acura RDX SUV.

I think it depends on which way you look at it. Displacement matters a bit too..

Like mentioned above, the S2000 makes 240hp w/ 2.0L. I believe that's the highest for a production NA car (120hp/L).

This question is a bit complicated to define what a stock car is.

600 units are produced from S204
100 units from FQ-400

I guess the question is where the unit limit is.

if we're not talking about stock form, then i would think the Max-4 holds the record.
4L, 4 cylinder, 4000 hp. that's 1000 hp per liter.
