Not A Drag Car

Total disagree. The Evo is a great drag car. Some stock evo's have ran high 12's in the 1/4 can you show me to another new stock car capable of high 12's stock for 30ish. With another 5k you can be in the high 11's. You can then leave the drag and sign up for a track day. Don't be a hater, some of us really enjoy drag racing and the evo hauls ***.

i agree with jeff... i know that some of you have really fast evos and im sure you do quite well at the strip but like jeff said the car was born and bred for road/rally course... it was created to out handel anything else out there, but hey im a fair guy i dont think any less of evo dragsters but when i hear a story of someone that beat a corvet or whatever at a drag strip i just dont get as excited or impressed as if it were a story about road raceing
road race all the way!!!

The EVO is talented enough to be used for whatever its particular owner wants it to be for. I like the fact that mine can perform well no matter what flavor of racing I choose to do. Sanctioned drag racing is just a quick release for me a speed freak. Use your car the way that you like! If there were a road course near me I would be there as much as possible.

How right you are there, i've got a 3rd gen. and they are not the best of drag cars but when it comes to handling its hard to beat it!! Maint costs aren't that bad seriously with a FD. If you do all the maint. it will run hard all day long with no problems they aren't as bad as people make them out to be. I've got one for sale go here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/673539 for pictures of the car and pm me if interested!

I keep trying to tell my friends that the EVO is not a drag car, I feel it is actually at a dissadvantage in a drag race, at least in the street sense. I continue to push that the EVO is a road course car, not a drag car. Now you may dissagree with me because some EVO's happen to be quite quick at the strip, but think abou it, the car was made for taking the turns, for road course's. I feel that Solo II where I want to play is going to be a more suitable place for the EVO than the drag strip. Not only will it be in its enviroment, but should be allot less stress on the car. For you guys that do race the Drags, like the guy racing the ZO6, I mean that is amazing, that impresses me because the Corvette is more suited for Drag racing than the EVO and for it to win, well, that is truly amanzing.....But beating a Corvette, a Viper, an M3 in a Solo II event to me, is just as sweet.........

Hey, drag racing has its place in the Evo community just as much as the other racing sports. Hell, I'm sure there are some people who only rally race their Evo and think the rest of us are fools for racing on asphalt. Anyway, the drag strip is a great measuring tool, it can be done without any modification, any change in brakes/fluids/tires, and with very little money and time spent. Then, like several others said, you can from the drag strip on Friday night while shooting for 11s, then go autocross all day on Saturday with just a change of tires, then hit the road course all day Sunday with those same tires and not any other changes in equipment. Hell, if you wanted to, you could just use the stock Advans for all 3 events - I just prefer to use r-compounds.
I personally prefer to do all 3. Doing all 3 is what excites me. I will be doing an SCCA Solo II auto-x this weekend, a Dynoflash tuning trip next weekend, a 2-day NASA HPDE the following weekend, and then the some test'n'tune at the drag strip 2 weekends later (in addition to the 2nd SCCA event that same weekend). Here's some footage of the Warrtalon MR in action. You said you thought beating a Z06 on the drag strip was "ok," but what about beating a Z06 on the drag strip _AND_ on the road course?
Warrtalon - 12.000
DC Evo's at Summit Point
Clayton - Frederick Auto-X

Listen man, the Evo is Deon Sanders and Bo Jackson rolled into one. Why try to set a limit on what it can be used for??? Oh wait, the Evo can turn well so you're not allowed to race it in a straight line...

There's nothing wrong with drag racing the Evo. Personally, it doesn't interest me very much but that's just my preference. I like the turns!
The thing that is really disappoints me is that 90% of the Evo community only drag races. There are a small handful of folks who participate in HPDEs or track days, using the car for what it's made for. The Evo is a serious track weapon, right out of the box. All you need to do is upgrade brake pads and fluid and the car is track ready. It has an oil cooler, a good radiator, sticky tires, strong brakes, reliable power, and great handling. It's a great, balanced car on the track that keeps going when others have overheated. Too bad most don't know how well it works....
I say, drag race if you want but use the car for what it's made for!

I don't understand how people can say the EVO is not a capable drag car, what because it also has the ability to stop and turn on a dime, that to me is what makes the EVO such an awesome performance machine. But to say it's not this, or it's not that is really a discredit to the car. I mean any car that can cut 1.6 or 1.7 60fts on street tires is a great drag car. It also has the potential to run high 12s/low 13s stock and with mininmal effort and money spent run 11s with ease. If you don't like drag racing then that's fine, I don't like autocrossing but again just like you that is just my opinion and I'm not on here created stupid *** threads claiming the EVO isn't this or that. Seriously you have nothing to validate any of your claims other than your opinion, people are going to drag race their EVOs, why because they want to, it's their cars and they can do the f*ck what they want to do with it. If the EVO was so bad at drag racing would we even bother drag racing it? Sorry but drag racing is here to stay, I suggest you get over it.
