you could say any cage is unsafe w/o a helmet. Why single this one out?
As far as the tech goes.....are there different rules in Japan? I know it wont pass SCCA stuff but what about events in Japan? I may be legal there, which means it is functional and safe (w/helmet) anyone know??

And for the record, every full cage without a helmet is unsafe. People don't like the Cusco cage because it is 700$ of added weight. It is a bolt in Cro-Mo cage with bolted bends. Total joke.

I understand there are a lot of JAY-DEE-EM fetishists out there, but just because they do things a certain way doesn't mean it is right here. Having been/lived there for a while I can say that very few of their ways of doing things would work properly over here. Not that I am saying they are wrong, but things like running a car without a crash bar here is pure insanity unless it is a dedicated track car. And for the record, they DO have crash bars, they certainly aren't as beefy as ours, though. Along this lines, running a cage without a helmet is equally as insane. Guess what happens if your head hits a metal bar during a crash?
Exactly.
Most of the more experienced cage builders will agree with me. Search around on SoCalEvo.net and look for a post Mike W. of Road Race Engineering made about running a caged street car without a helmet.
As far as the Cusco cage being safe and functional, here you go:

Read the last few pages.
It's ok to play "big boy" and offer up opinions and different ways of thought, but do your research first.

^ agreed... this cusco "cage" is a joke, if you want a cage get a proper cage for your TRACK car... not your street car. If you want a "cool look" or whatever or even something that serves a good function go for the autopower roll bar instead, its bolt in but still will work ok to my knowledge, atleast there are no bars infront of the seats for you to hit your head on while DD'ing or something. Anyway the cusco "cage" is a joke, oh well...
