xfer case whine...is there a cheaper solution???

mine whines loud as hell. I took it into the dealer to replace the synchros b/c of a rough shift into second, grinded really hard. They replaced a bunch of stuff, I would have to look at the invoice to tell you guys exactly what they did but, it still whines loud as hell when your just cruising at low speeds. I might make a sound clip this weekend or tonight.

I'm glad I found this thread! I have this same issue with my 2005 Evo 8, I was going crazy because I had no idea what could be. My car whines (not loud) when driving, at high speeds you can't hear it. If I let off and put the car in neutral while moving the whine remains. Only when speed is lower than ~25MPH the whine stops. I hope this is not bad.
