daily driving does take a toll after a bit.

But with a good progressive springs you could drive it daily and still thrash on weekends.

The Evo in general makes a lot of squeeks and noises.

From a friend who just traded in his 03 for Evo IX is telling me that it's worst on the Evo IX as far as noise and squeeking.

But really, just turn your stereo up, you wont hear a thing.

i've noticed a few squeaks here and there. Nothing rediculous or that I can't tolerate. Evo as a daily driver? The suspension is stiffer (out of the box) than any Subaru I've driven. If youre looking for something comfortable which is what it sounds like, you are in the wrong place. Evos and STI's are all about performance, nothing else. I'm 6'1" and after a 3 hour drive to San Francisco, my knees hurt like sh*t. If you're worried about reliability and a comfy daily driver buy yourself an Acura TSX or an Accord or something of that sort, maybe a Camry. From what you are saying, it sounds like you are less concerned with performance, otherwise you wouldn't be asking questions of this type. Good luck on that Honda sedan.

Go buy a wrx not the sti then you'll have yourself a good reliable car with awd for the winter. A nice soft suspension and the ability to mod if you choose.
It doesnt sound like an evo is the car for you.

IMO this guy doesn't know what he's talking he makes 03-04's seem like POS. As long as you keep up with all the maintanence like any other car the car will take care of you. I always kept up with all the regular maintanence on all the cars I've ever had and I have never had any "major" problems with any of my cars.

Sounds to me like your best option would be a stock STi. Keep it that way, don't mod it, and be happy. SRT-4 has some worrysome tranny issues, and the Evo is pretty costly in the maintenance department (not to mention the temptation of modding).

I've driven all three cars, and the STi is the "nicest" daily driver (although I have not driven an MR, so I can't speak to it). I myself don't really give a rat's a$$ about a cushy ride ... I prefer the Evo version ... hard and fast, just like (whoops ... edit this part out) ...

I agree. I have an 03' as my daily driver, and it's a great vehicle!

Please buy anything but the Evo so, you can go to other forums and start redundant threads there.

If you care about a cute interior and soft ride on your bum, get the STi, if you want a real car with incredible power potential and the best handling, and your not a ***** about a firm ride, get the EVO.

Or if you're a poor college student that needs a car to last him 100k while being reliable, buy a Honda Civic.

I have an 03 that I bought new and I drive it daily in Chicago traffic. I also drive to Michigan 10-15 times a year (700 miles round trip). My oil is changed every 3K. I have almost 65K miles and I am still on the original clutch.

I don't know where you heard about dealers letting people thrash new cars on test drives. I went to a Subaru dealer in 2003 when I was considering both the STI and the Evo. The Subaru dealer wouldn't even let me SIT in the car. He told me to pay $1000 deposit and then wait until they call me to come get the car. They were also charging a $5000 market adjustment.

From the looks of your threads I think you would be best suited behind the wheel of a Tiburon or an SRT-4.
