How long has SAYC been on the car since #7?
AYC has been on since the Evo IV. SAYC was introduced with the 8, the primary difference is a switch to a planetary gearset in the rear differential (thus enabling more torque bias). Most people want SAYC here because they can't have it, not because they really understand the system or what it does. Keep in mind that the GT trim level was introduced in the other markets because people DIDN'T want SAYC.

I thought the RS was created for people that didn't want AYC, and has always been the track no frills model. I thought the GT was created for people who wanted more creature comforts in their Evo, but still wanted a lower list price, kind of a Impreza WRX fighter, but still more, I know.

I had auto climate control in my Galant, but it was all buttons - no knobs. It was annoying, took too long to get drastic changes, which is necessary down here in this spastic climate.

The newer style three round knob style climate control in the current vehicles is okay since it retains manual functions. IF they did something like that, I think it would be okay as a compromise. The size of the knobs and layout of the system I see in JDM Evos resembles what you find in our Monteros.

Ha ha, I was waiting for someone to say that. Its more like a Public Service Announcement, "My IX MR is better them all your other Evos."

The USDM Evo IX MR is the best combination of the GT and GSR trims. We get the more durable turbo, the six speed, the BBS rims, and the aluminum roof with the race-proven RS drivetrain. SAYC may be cool, but we get a 5 year warranty. ( fixed everything that went wrong with my 03, including some minor faults with trim which ended up being very expensive to fix). Also, not sure how psyched I'd be about changing my diff fluid every 2K miles. Some very reputable sources say that the IX also produces around 50 more hp at the flywheel than the 03-04 models.

So we lose the intercooler sprayer and climate control? I've heard Dave Buschur himself declare the sprayer to be a 'worthless piece of junk' and I've always spent more time trying to 'trick' an auto climate control into blowing the temperature of air that I want than I would with a standard manual HVAC setup.

For a car that I want to live with everyday, maintain myself, and take to an HPDE occasionally, I'd be hard-pressed to find anything better than the car I have today. Anyone else agree with me?

Did anyone watch the Best Motoring video on the Evo 8. They compared Evo's with and without S-AYC and came to the conclusion that it makes the car much faster. I was sold on the S-AYC after watching the video, but now you're saying its useless??

I've never heard any one say it is useless, just that professional drivers don't like it because it takes the "fun" out of driving. You lose the feel of balancing a car on the edge. I have heard Top Gear describe it as boring, because it makes the car too easy to drive fast.

Plus there's the added maintenace and wether or not it can handle a GT42 900whp+ vehicle. Or somewhere in between that and stock.

I'm saying that japanese auto journalism is crap. It's like Motor Trend, but worse. The results are not scientific and are skewed towards what the automaker wants. It's just glorified advertising. When Top Gear does something like this then I'll listen.
