why the US IX is both a true Evo and the best model around
I just wanted to say that Mitsubishi did a great job specing out the IX for the US and despite what the griefers say, it's not a watered down car in any way. Why?
The USDM Evo IX MR is the best combination of the GT and GSR trims. We get the more durable turbo, the six speed, the BBS rims, and the aluminum roof with the race-proven RS drivetrain. SAYC may be cool, but we get a 5 year warranty. ( fixed everything that went wrong with my 03, including some minor faults with trim which ended up being very expensive to fix). Also, not sure how psyched I'd be about changing my diff fluid every 2K miles. Some very reputable sources say that the IX also produces around 50 more hp at the flywheel than the 03-04 models.
So we lose the intercooler sprayer and climate control? I've heard Dave Buschur himself declare the sprayer to be a 'worthless piece of junk' and I've always spent more time trying to 'trick' an auto climate control into blowing the temperature of air that I want than I would with a standard manual HVAC setup.
For a car that I want to live with everyday, maintain myself, and take to an HPDE occasionally, I'd be hard-pressed to find anything better than the car I have today. Anyone else agree with me?

I would still like the S-AYC. The evo still has understeer in stock form and the S-AYC is the part of mitsus great all-wheel drive system that takes care off that. Matter fact, I'd rather have S-AYC then ACD.

i always thought the LSD was just as good if not better than Super AYC. The topic has been beat to death, do a search and youll know what im talking about. I agree, the USDM Evo IX is rock solid, and you cant ask for anymore.

S-AYC is a fine system but keep in mind that all the Group N cars are based on the mechanical LSD since it's much stronger than S-AYC. In other words, S-AYC is only on the luxury GSR model, not the competition oriented RS. Initially the RS didn't have ACD on the 7 but based on demand they released it with a competition ECU. That tells me that ACD is the more important feature. Any car will understeer if you enter a turn too hot, not even S-AYC can prevent it. S-AYC is on the border between a performance enhancer and a driver's aid. Even the electronic differentials on F1 cars have variable lockup only, no mechanism for sending power left-right, because in the hands of an expert driver, an S-AYC like system would be unpredictable and undesirable. Even the Lancer WRC05 has mechanical diffs front and rear and an ACD in the center. Granted their ACD costs more than our entire cars, but in concept the ACD is most important, IMO.
