+1 with 5k miles

in only 2-3 shift not 4-3 or 5-3 I am going to flush out the fluid soon and see if it makes a difference..

Its hit or miss with evo transmissions, while some shift extremely smooth, others just do not.

I haven't read of an MR having any problems/grinds/resistances but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

I think the problem can be greatly reduced if you just flush the transmission fluid, add some shifter bushings, get some motor mounts....

To me its not so much a grinding from first to second as it is a resistance. Where going from 2-3 is so very nothcy.

Same thing here...glad I'm not the only one, it sounds like it's coming from the shifter base not the tranny so who knows. Other than that the car is freaken amazing!!!

I'm gonna try the motor mount and aluminum underhood bushings and see if this fixes the problem...anyone else remedy it?

remember guys....push clutch all the way down...when speed shifting from certain gears you need to engage all the way or it will grind...easy fix...i bet you guys don't grind gears going around town?...and continous grinding will result in gate lock out and tranny work...missing gears is bad....either learn how to drive or get a short shifter...

The IX tranny seems a lot better than my VIII tranny. It shifts so much better plus I have no grinding issues now.

I can confirm two little issues on the Evo 9 :

Gears are notchy on the 5 speed Evo 9.
Brakes makes noise

I fix the first problem with shyncromesh. I fix the second problem by blasting the brake calipers once a week with my portable gasoline powered 2700psi pressure car wash. I do clean the brakes regularily with high pressure water and degreaser.

Yes, the brakes are noisy and even more noisy when dirty. Keeping them clean makes the noise rare.
