the tire looks like it could blow any second because the tread on the edge is so thin

100$ says alignment.

Here's what I get for not having proper alignment

take it to the shop and get it align. stock evo have negative camber and the tires usually have a premature wear on the inside but yours looks like it wore on the out side. could be a bad toe problem.

It's possible that it could be a bent control arm, especially since it looks like the outside is what is worn. But it's also possible that your alignment is just out of whack. Either way, the way to check is to get a 4 wheel alignment done, and you need to do that before driving on your new replacement tires anyway. The alignment tech should be able to tell right away if something is bent because it will not align properly.

I agree, two options not listed on the window sticker of the Evo are bad allignment and worse paint.

Mine looked exactly like that and it was from the bad factory alignment. Luckily, my outside edge also looked like that from autox so no big deal for me.

Same thing happened to me. The toe was off from the factory. I had the car realigned when I replaced the tires. I now have 12,000 miles on the new tires and they're wearing perfectly even. I wish I had done that when the stock Advans were new.

HAHA YEA RIGHT both my inside treads of the front Advans are totally toast. and the drivers side one is so bad it has a rip and I can pull string from it.

I'll post pics on this tomorrow of them since i Got new shoes and rubba.

P.S. Have ridden 17,000 miles on advans.

get it aligned, ballasted for driver weight. it will make a difference, outer edges usually indicates a toe problem, also I doubt you have a bent control arm, the evo arms are cast and castings usually break rather than bend.

Would the difference in tire diameters have damaged the center differential?

I just got my 03 aligned at the mitsu shop for $99. I wish I would have done it earlier (55K miles now). My tires looked like Bolsen's before I got my new ones. Hopefully the alignment was the issue.
