Socialism has been the greatest evil mankind has ever seen. Last century it accounted for the slaughter of over 100,000,000 people, from Mao, to Stalin and Lenin, to Hitler (yes, he was a socialist), to Pol Pot, Ho Chi Minh, Che Guevera, Fidel Castro and Saddam Hussein...mass murdering Godless socialist derivatives all.

Gasoline taxes are primarily state taxes and can vary from county to county. The federal tax on gas is actually quite small. I'm assuming you weren't alive during the oil embargo and have no memories of the havoc it causes on our daily lives. OPEC single-handedly caused the gas shortage and as a result, the 55mph speed limit law was imposed as a stop-gap since American motor companies were two decades behind in the technology implemented commonplace on most Japanese vehicles. The federal government has billions in reserves yet releases none. This is partly because we don't have the refineries to process the excess oil and bring costs down. While oil companies make record profits, they invest nothing in infrastructure as refineries are too expensive given the dwindling supply of oil. It doesn't make economic sense. But an oil well, that's cheap. Even if we drilled every single last remaining stockpile of oil in the ground, it would provide less than 20% of the total oil consumed by the U.S. And not all the oil sucked up from the ground stays in the U.S. So let's just drill wherever we can, suck up the remaining supplies and destroy other natural resources in the process. As long as we make money, right? And then there's the Chinese who have received untold trade favors from our current administration. Guess what. They're 1+billion newly initiated drivers who are competing for the same small pool of oil. Guess who wins the bidding war? Did you really think it was a bunch of democrats huddling together to come up with new ways to raise prices? Really now. The Bush era hasn't done much to move us on to the next combustible and instead tends to feed all the "good ol' boys" and their trillion dollar oil companies. Bush=oil. Just look at who they appointed as the president of Afghanistan. Huh. You have a vary uneducated and narrow view of the way the world really exists. Classifying any American as you have above is just shameful. It isn't us and them. It's us united. Educate yourself and for a change, think beyond your needs to those around you.

Oh, go conservative. If it's not enough, you can always "add" more performance. If you blow things up, it's a lot harder to go back.

Dude, they were all totalitarian. Specifically fascists. Socialism never killed a single person. "Evildoers" did (I know, cheap shot). Perhaps they could attempt to hide their true motives under the guise of socialism/communism as Pol Pot, Castro and Mao Zhe Dong did. Heck, we helped put Ho Chi Minh in power as we did Pol Pot (Try reading the book "My Brother Enemy" and you'll understand our roll in Asia, specifically, Cambodia, Laos, Viet Nam and China). My wife lived through Pol Pot's nightmare and I've lived in several of the above countries where I've studied society and produced documentary pieces. I've seen their world through their eyes and it's quite different from reading concepts in a textbook. I'm really not trying to anger or insult you but you have a very basic understanding of broad principles. Nihil est in intellectu quod non prius fuerit in sensu, (Latin). Thanks for the help buddy. I have done more than a human should regarding my homework on these subjects. I am not your average evolutionm'er...I am 36, educated and self-supporting. My passion is politics and I spend great amounts of energy objectively supporting my positions.

Socialism, in the specific form of communism or fascism, is absolutely evil...It is not the geography, it is not the culture where it is tried, it is the ideology itself and Marxian theory, or Stalinist theory...Think Islam, those who practice the pure form of it become evil, similarly those that practice the purist form of communism become evil.

 

You are a little shallow in your understanding of politics. California has a RINO (republican in name only) in office, the first "Republican" (RINO) in some time mind you. He is for all intents and purposes a liberal, even in bed with some of the worst of them (eg, Ted "the swimmer" Kennedy).

91 octane is legislation pushed by the enviro-fascists, to reduce pollution (sorta like they pushed for MTBE which polluted California's ground water), the liberal socialists run this state and therefore the taxcodes, the liberals have demanded special mixtures of gasoline for California and tax the crap out of it because they know Californians are slaves and have no choice....We pay at least $1.00 more than we should, when all is said and done, because of liberal Democrat policy.

the 55 mph laws were another product of envirofascists (democrats), as are smoking laws. The enviromental lobby warped a study to scare the public that we needed to drive 55 mph for the good of mother earth....Big fat lie.
