Well, I've been reading about it a bit and tonight, I was telling one of my GTI owner buddies about the 5K RPM launch limiter thing. Anyway, tonight we decided to try it out. 2005 Evo, K&N, and Vishnu TBE is all in case you're wondering.

So, his girlfriend and her friend are watching from afar in a totally empty parking lot. Sure enough, the 5k thing works, dump the clutch and off to redline we go, hit second, redline, then shut it down. I'm totally amazed at how fast that thing took off, and so were our spectators.

I have a whole new appreciation for our cars...now when does the burned clutch smell go away?

 

It shouldn't have worked at all if you dumped your clutch. Making a habit of dumping the clutch will blow your t-case, too, so please refrain.

 

Damn! I wonder how many times you can do that till you need another clutch? I knwo my friends 03 GSR went up to almost 35000miles till his clutch started to go out.

 

I think i got about 10 hard launches out of my stock clutch. ( I really wanted a excuse to upgrade).

 

I will do plenty more reading before I ever do it again, cause that thing smells bad. But, drove it normal on the way home and the clutch works just fine. I go really easy on my EVO, that is the first remotely harsh thing I've ever done to it, and don't plan to make it a habit.

I should also add, "dump the clutch" might be a bit strong, but I came off it rather quickly.

 

After some practice I learned how to properly launch the car. The last couple times I launched it there was no clutch smell, and i agree with what Warr said.

 

Yeah my friend did about 10-15 launches at 5000rpms too. And alot of down shifting at freeway speeds. So I guess its not too bad. I havent seen anyones t-case ruined yet. But I bet its a neat site to see.

 

I launched a few times on 10psi. I wont do that anymore.

I got about 100 launch out of th estock clutch...........wasn't until I went to the dragstrip that I found that a smooth clutch slip out of the hole and the car ran faster for me.

Well my Friend you just met someone that there T case has gone....I lauched it hard to many Times i have a Twin Disk Clutch....But when Dose it Shoot out like a beast all my tires Peel out its SICK ...But now its at the Shop and they dont know if waranty Will cover it...

 

Hi nice to meet ya. How does it feel? And did your t-case go out while you had the twin disc in or did you install the twin disc after? Also how much hp do you have?

Anyway back on topic.. Yes dont dump your clutch, unless you want a reason to replace your Tcase and/or tranny with something stronger.
I got about 70launches on my evo before the clutch started slipping. Now its time to save up...

 

Hell I dont even dump my clutch cause this car is already fast anyways. I havent even found a car yet that is worthy of making me dump my clutch. hahahaha
