Turbo Timer + Boost Controller

I said to myself that warrtalon package will be my first thing i buy when i start mods my cars for power. But I keep seeing ppl talking about boost controler and how useful to have turbo timer. So, my question is, should i getting turbo timer + boost controller now or should wait after i have got warrtalon package ? (because i not gonna get that package until i have 5kmiles or so on my car)

i have always heard that a turbo timer is a waist of money and time

I would just get the Warrtalon package and then take it from there.

You don't need a turbo timer on your Evo, because it is water and oil cooled. All you need to do is make sure you don't go around boosting like crazy then immediately turn the car off. Just take it easy the last few minutes before you park, then wait like a few seconds after you park. If you've boosted recently, then wait like 30 seconds or so.

I don't quite understand the MBC part. I don't think people are talking about getting an MBC by itself. You want one in concert with the other useful mods - they all work together perfectly, but not as good individually. You also wouldn't want an MBC without a boost gauge.

Turbo Timers are not a wast of money if you don't like sitting in your car every time you get somewhere waiting for 30-60 seconds. Most are actually rpm sensitive and will adjust the time accordingly.
Every time I get in the car I have to wait a minute, when I get there I just want to get out and go.
Its not like doing the wrong mods to your car. They cant hurt it and they are not a tone of money so if you want one go for it.
Just a recomendation if you do get one. Spend the extra 12-15 bucks and get the harness, it will make your life a lot easier and simpler installation.

They still make you wait longer than is necessary. They're designed for turbos that aren't water-cooled. I've never been delayed by needing my turbo to cool down.

its a convenience mod. If you want to spend $100 for something that helps you, I say go for it. I bought one and it has actually helped me more than you'd think. Sometimes you drive fast and you just can't wait for the damn turbo to cool. I don't know why Warr opposes something that cheap and insignificant, especially since its useful, but then again he seems to be on a very strict budget when it comes to modding evo's

I don't oppose it - it's just not necessary. I was answering his question.

However, getting a turbo timer is independent of a boost controller and independent of buying the mod package. It can be done now, then, or later.

where do they say that? i have never seen any claim " not needed for water cooled turbos". you have never been delayed, bc you choose not too. its all about saftey measures. you dont have too, but i think your playing with fire if you dont make sure you turbo is cooled down, and i dont think most of us has oil temp gauge to monitor when its safe. IMO just its 80 bucks for peace of mind, and at least good for some laughs when people stare at you when you walk away from a car thats running

It doesn't matter if it says that or not. It's common knowledge that it's not necessary on a water-cooled turbo like ours. It's not playing with fire at all. Turbo timers are not necessary, and I haven't been delayed, because I don't go WOT straight into my parking spot like Jackie Chan. The only time I make an effort to cool my turbo down for a few minutes is when racing. When I do that, I drive around at low rpm, which is far better than sitting at idle. Btw, the oil temp gauge doesn't matter. The oil temp often goes UP when you sit at idle, because there is no more air to cool it down. However, 80-100C oil is still plenty cool enough to cool down an 800C turbo, so that's no big deal.

It's better to drive the last few minutes out of boost at low rpm than it is to sit still at idle.

I have a tt. pretty much drive slow in my alley til I pull in the garage, and shut off the tt right away, really not a necessity. But what I DO use it for.. is to warm up my car in the winter. Turn on car, set to 5 minutes, pull keys, go get the wife and kid, car is all warm.

Btw, it's also not good to idle for 5 minutes like that to warm up either. You should warm up the car by driving it out of boost until it's up to operating temps.

the wrx/sti manual says there is no reason for a turbo timer. the scooby turbo has the same setup as ours oil/water cooled...

I had a turbo timer in my car and took it out.

YOU DON'T NEED A TURBO TIMER unless you boost though your neiborhood and power slide into you parking space. If you don't believe me, next time your going to the store, start counting right when you get into the parking lot, and after you look for a spot, park and everything, it will have been at least a minute or more without boost, and you turbo will be perfectly cool.
NO need for a turbo timer.

you'll wish you had that turbo timer when you're flooring it home, full boost, while having to take a ****, but once you get home and are ready to jump out of the car, you have to wait 30 sec. And in that 30 sec, you would've already **** your pants and ruined your $800 + seats for not buying a $100 part.
