Unless you have some type of CEL fix for the test pipe the light should come on. It is most likely a P0420, which is telling you that your cat is not working.

You need an 02 simulator if you didnt put the 02 sensor back into the pipe, which is probably the case.

So, you can ask someone to weld a bung on the pipe to put it back on, or you can get an 02 simulator for 80-100 bucks.

Thumbs up P0420

P0420. You need to move the rear O2 sensor out of the exhaust stream by installing a spacer. Get 1 or 2 anti foulers at pepboys and install them under the O2 sensor. $5 fix. You may have to drill out the outer one so the O2 sensor screws in all the way.

you have 2 options. Either go with an electrical 02 similator fix, or the less expensive mechanical 02 fix. I chose the latter, spent $10 and it worked fine. Do a search for "mechanical 02 fix" there is a how to.

I'm having problems with the mechanical fix. It will go about a week and then throw a cel. Anyone else having issues with the mechanical fix?

How far out do you have the O2 sensor? You may have to add a second smaller spacer.

what's the code you are getting? Mine was a P0420 and I haven't gotten it for over 6 months now. Also, you used 2 anti-foulers and not just one right? reason I asked is some people only use one.

Lots of people have problems with the mech fix and the elect fix too.

Problems with the mech fix are normally not being able to get 2 antifoulers in (P0420) there as the o2 sensor would hit the undercarridge, or water collecting on the sensor causing cels, if the sensor is angled down (P0139, P0138)

If you get a elec fix which involves cutting wires, MAKE SURE YOU SOLDER THEM. You are far more likely to get a P0139 if use crimp connectors for the signal wire.

I have heard of people in the North east getting more CEL's of this nature in winter when a lot of snow gets flicked up under the car and onto the sensor (if it is angled down) as well.

Just my experience so far.

I'm using the mech fix from BR. I think I have room for a second one. I'll have to get the code read.
I can tell you the the fix takes the o2 sensor just out of the exhaust path. I guess exhaust can still leak in the small cavity the o2 sensor is in after a while.

It needs to "leak in" as you say, but you don't want it right in the exhaust stream. Anti foulers at your local Pep Boys are like $4 go for a shorty and your done, if that's the code and you have room. I've seen people use a right angle fitting so they can get the sensor further out and still have clearance.

I have Megan's DP and TP, and because of the O2 sensor location/angle on the TP I couldn't use the mechanical fix. I chose the O2 simulator route for $24.95 and it's been 5,000 miles without a single CEL. Check this post where I explained it:
