Silencer In The Exhaust
#16
Monster, read the whole thread. I said a guy LOST 40whp from using the tail silencer on his TBE. In other words, it's MORE restrictive than the stock exhaust.
Yes, a TBE should give NO LESS than 25whp. It's usually 30whp or more, though.

Bottom line is that it is not reccommended if you want to keep your power up. Get a quieter exhaust if you don't like how loud your's is. But it's your call. Just make sure your happy with what you do. I personally would not use a silencer.

http://www.dynomax.com/mufflers.php - ultra flo, looks like pipe inside got same diameter that inlet and outlet pipes so it shouldnt make more back pressure and i know for fact that in my buddy's turbo lexis is300 made it waaaaaaaay more quiet

Ok, here's a test:
Run around the block as fast as you can, and then record your time.
now, go grab a coffee straw and use that as your "breathing tube." You can inhale just as you normally would but you can only exhale through the straw. After you have taped it to your face, try to run around the block as fast as you can.
If you don't die, you may notice a distinct difference in your speed/respiration with and without the straw. This is exactly what you're doing to your motor.
All joking aside, resonators, high-flow cat (if you're catless), and experimenting with diff mufflers can all quiet you down.

+1. After I got my new exhaust, I put the silencer in just to see what the difference would be... Drove around the block, parked the car, took the silencer out, and threw it right in the trash.

I found a Cobb Exhaust & Megan resonated test pipe, you can't get quiter than that on an Evo at idle, WOT is a different story....
But I did try the Silencer for a while & I was in denial of how slow the car felt.
Silencers are a temp fix.....
