Floor Jack Slipped... Big Bump in Floor Now
My EVO is beginning to remind me of my old DSM... one problem leads to another. I jacked the car up Saturday to replace a couple clamps on the UICP with t-bolt clamps (which were too big, by the way). I used a floor jack on the driver's side, with a block of wood like I always do. I had the car up a few inches, still not very high at all, and just as I was about to put the jack stand under the car.. BAM.. the block slipped and the car fell from the rail (cant think of the right term) to underneath the floor board itself. It scared the crap out of me to say the least. Two seconds later I would have been under there with the jackstand and who knows how that would have worked out.
At any rate, now I have a damn raised spot in my floorboard where the jack landed, right about where my left foot sits if Im sitting up straight. Its irritating as hell. Any one ever had this happen before?
Im gonna try to pound it back down later today. Hopefully that will work, else it might be in the body shop.

Just be glad it was your floor board with the dimple, and not say......oh......Your leg or somethng. I personally never use a block of wood, cause you lose the security of the cup on top of the jack. I also, keep the jackstand next to me when i jack the car up so i can immediatly place it under neither the car. Sucks about the floor board, but im sure you can knock it down to the point where its not to noticable.
Good Luck, and be happy your safe!

I had couple of cars which were jacked in the wrong place and the same thing happened. All you need to do is get a hammer and bang that sucker back down. Dont use a rubber mallet use a regular hammer.

Great invention called jack stands. You should invest in them. I dunno but shop rule number 2 we learned was NEVER use a jack to hold a car up. Behind rule number 1 which also applies use the right tool for the job. Glad your not injured.

I've one upped you. I had just started getting into doing/installing mods on my car (my previous car, not the Evo), and didn't really know how to use a jack. My friend who was also in the same boat, thought the round thing on the floorboard (floor plug) next to the pinch was the spot to jack the car up.
It seemed to make sense since the plug and the cup on the jack were exactly the same size. Well, we started jacking up the car and it went up a couple inches but then it it wouldn't go up too much higher. A couple more pumps on the jack handle and we see the car drop to the ground. We were all like this: ...WTF happened!!!
Well...the jack had pierced clean thru the floor board by popping the plug, and was poking inside my car, lifting the carpet up. I took the car to a bodyshop and the guy who repaired it commented that it was possibly the best place to have pierced the hole as he was able to hammer out the raised area and weld the plug back in.
Since then I've been about 100x more cautious about the way I use the jack, but I've still had two or three incidents.
