Why don't EVO's sound "ricey"?

How come EVO's with aftermarket exhaust's don't have the horrible Honda Civic note to them? I mean they are both 4 cylinders, does having a turbo make a difference?

Chiming in with my own "ignoranant" opinion. I would say it is because the evos have a turbo. I hear some orginal n/a cars that have a turbo and they dont have that ricey affect. I think a lot of those ricers out there dont even really need the exhausts they put on their car. I call em "fart pipes".

Suck-Squeeze-Bang-Blow! The EVO has alot more Suck, meaning it's moving alot more air, meaning the deeper tone.

Because of the turbo.

Just consider the turbo as a "rotary muffler".

The turbo is a muffler, it absorbes all that blatty, raspyness.

An old 1G N/A 4G63 with a fart can, sounds like a Honda with a fart can.
