Cheap Mod- Remove paint from hood vent
I don't know if this has been posted before.
I was bored today so I went outside to get some fresh air, and was admiring my Evo.
When I thought to myself, wouldn't that hood vent look better if it wasn't painted.
So I drove down to autozone and picked up some Aircraft Klean-strip Remover.
(Pic Below).
Then I proceeded to remove the paint. Small tutorial for those that would like to know how.
1. Remove vent. There are 3 or 4 plastic screws and to metal clamps that come off by pinching them with needle nose pliers.
2."optional" use sand paper and scuff up the paint, but don't scratch the metal.
This step make it easer for the paint to come off.
3. Wash the vent with a hose or a bath tube and dry with a cloth or towel.
4. Take the vent outside and spray it with the Aircraft Klean-strip and set it aside for 10-15 min.
Wear rubber gloves because this **** will burn your skin.
5. Use a rag or an old t-shirt to wipe away the paint and remover.
For the stubborn places use a plastic scraper, or respray with the remover.
I used a blank CD-R and broke it in half, worked OK.
6. After the paint is removed wash it again with a hose or in a bath tube and dry with a cloth.
7. Put the vent back in your car and enjoy the fresh new look.
This took me about 45 mins to do and cost me about $6.

I have painted some other metals with it before and it came out looking good.
Thats my RC Heli.
but I will probable give it a clear coat. I was surprised at how clean and shiny it came out!

Even cheaper… just drive the car long enough and the paint will fade off the vent like on my car.
Everyone asks if I painted the vent, however, it simply faded from the heat. It’s hard to see but if you save this photo and zoom-in, you’ll see it’s completely faded.

I think it looks awesome with a white Evo. I want to see it done on a blue or a yellow Evo.
Trust me it makes the car stand out so much more, people can't help staring at it.
I have gotten more complements in the past few days then I have in a long time.

hehe i dunno might be one of those things you have to look at a lot to get used to, or learn to like... like the new yamaha r6.. couldnt stand it at first, kept checking it out and fell in love.
it would be interesting to see what it would look like on other color cars... but for the black im still leaning more to stock !
thats cool tho, takes ***** to just start taking paint off your beautiful car.

I had no idea that it just comes off, my car is a 2005 with 12k miles on it, and it didn't come off, so I made it.
Does the metal tarnish at all if you don't repaint it?
I think it looks great, not to rice, just right.
