Finally buying the EVO
Alright well I am pulling the trigger on one of the following two cars on thursday however the dilemma of a 2003 or a 2005 is still a concern. I found a 2003 BBY with 32,000 miles on it, drove it had it checked out and it was never modded and was green lighted as a taken care of EVO, however I also found a 2005 RS with 27k in WW that was green lighted as a stock taken care of EVO as well. They want $23,000 for the WW RS and $22,500 FIRM for the BBY... I have been told that the 03-04's had problems even regardless of abuse, gear grinding, TC problems etc. I was told it was much safer to buy an 05 if I wanted to worry less about problems. Which of these two should I go for? The BBY is nice because it's a nice color, has power windows etc etc but if it were indeed a significant reliability difference to go with the 05 and NOT have those things I'd rather have the RS. What should I do?

I have an 05 and my TC was replaced at 9k miles.
I think the biggest issue here would be the 10.5 hotside and the ACD in the 05. If the power windows/locks/radio is something you really want, then the RS isnt for you.
Id probably go for the RS and deal with the louder ride/no power locks/windows and put in my own radio.
Good luck with the purchase either way.

RS doesn't have ABS does it?
Depends on what you want, and if you'll be building the car, or driving it daily. Not having pw and all that sucks. Not having ACD sucks kindof....biggest difference to me is the front dif. Do you road race, if so, go for the RS. If its daily driven, occasionally dragraced...go for the 03.
The 05s aren't free from any problems the 03s have. Whoever told you that is, well, misinformed.
On a side note, 501, how much is a IX gsr?

Or instead of paying 23k for a used 05, or paying 29,744 for a used 06 rs you could buy a new 06 rs from south coast for 27,000.00 (you might have to ship $500.) Or I just got an email from long beach mitsubishi for 25,500 for a new rs. Not to mention Mitsubishi is offering I believe 500 off for a loyality incentive. So that is the route I am going.. 25000 for a nice new RS.. mmmmm

2003 gets my vote. No radio, no power windows (really makes a difference), No ABS. I can only imagine no ABS with brembos especially in the snow. Also no HID's or sunroof (possibly no wing I assume as well). Many key features that signify an evo.
Plus BBY is such a nice color...
Oh and no power locks.
