wow...this thread is just full of misinformation, i waited to see if someone would get it right but geez

First and foremost...ALL USDM evo's have projectors in their housings (a projector is the curved lens thats puspose is to spread the light in an even plane, providing a sharp light cutoff and less glare)

some projectors are HID based and some are halogen based.

-HID (high intensity discharge) bulbs output a lot more light tahn your normal halogen bulb.

The main difference between a stock headlamp with hids and projectors, and a stock headlamp with NO hid and projectors, is usually the type of bowl(light reflector) of the projector that is used.


A Halogen projector that is mated with HID Bulbs, will not always give you the best cutoff and at times light output can be a lot worse than the halogen bulb. But, there are also some halogen projectors that to great with HID, tho im not too sure about the mazda3 comment....but it all depends on again the type of bowl that is used.

Color output

The color output of a projector can be changed by two things...bulbs temp

3000k yellow
4300K halogen white
5000k pure white
6000k bluish white
8000k blue
12000k purple

but, why do stock evos put out a bluish tint?

stock evo hid temps are 4300k, the colowshift that is usually seen is sometime due to the sheild(inside the projector and bowl assembbly) and the way that light is refelcted off of it. HIDnuts/gurus usually mod the sheild so that it gives off a bluesish tint but still outputs a white beam. and at time lesns also play a part in the tint of the of the output and but most common is done thru the sheild mods.
