I've been using a V1 for three years now. I've gotten two tickets while using it. Once when I got nailed with instant-on radar while passing a car on a two lane road, and the second time with laser at night. No way I could have avoided the first ticket. The cop was well-hidden, and he hadn't used the radar on any cars in front of me. Second one I should have known better than to speed at night. Bottom line is that a radar detector helps, but its no guarantee, especially with laser radar. Its getting to the point now where countermeasures are necessary, e.g. radar/laser jammers, non-reflective coatings on headlight lenses and front license plates (Veil), etc.

Also, just wanted to mention that for practical purposes, I'm say that either the X50 or the V1 will work just fine. The V1 has insanely great range. If the X50 has better range, it wouldn't matter.

He may still be making them. His site is www.audimods.com

First off i tend not to drive incredibly fast, especially in non highway areas. I also don't drive much over the limit if i'm the only car on the road in an area where i know the cops hang out.

On drives to vegas, i'll get warnings from my V1 that a cop is on Ka some 6-8 miles away across the desert. Its insane how well it works.

hey andrew,

just wondering how much you pay for the intall? very clean job and i like how all the wires are hidden. hit meeh back up or PM meeh. ive had three tickets already.....

I have the Escort 8500 and it has saved me many a times, both on the frwy and city driving. I was driving on a street known for cops busting people left and right for speeding, and my Escort saved me as a PoPo was hiding in between trees. I bought it used for $300.

How do you detect laser radar. Down in deleware they hit my cousins rental and before we can stop they had already pulled us over. It was a pretty good trap. Two cop cars hiding around a curve behind a sign and then a officer with the laser on the other side of the highway shooting the radar and another cop signaling people to pull over. Anybody who ran the two cop cars would chase.

Lightbulb

1. Never been pulled over w/my Escort S2(cordless)
2. Went to Vegas last weekend w/ a couple friends and we all brought our radars. Escort S2(cordless), Val 1, and Escort X50. I was surprised on all the false alarms the X50 and Val 1 kick out. My S2 was awesome, it detected 1-2 seconds quicker then the others and had far less annoying FA's. I've always said that the reasons for all the FA's is do to being linked to the cars power source, but I can't scientfically prove it. Anyways, I prefer a S2 and the only way to truly prove to yourself(that should be the only opinion that matters)which is better is to do the road test for yourself. I did and I was 100% correct

Good Luck

I have an 8500 x50. I have had it a couple of years. It has worked great, never pulled over even. The cops all use ka. I recently took 2 trips in one month for Salt Lake City to Los Angeles, and it saved me a bunch. Never used a V1, but in their ads they quote a comparison from 2002 Car and Driver, which I think is lame because that is 4 years old and Escort has updated the 8500 a bit. Other radar detector tests that I have read ranked the Bel, Escort and V1, top models of each brand as the best detectors.

Some highway patrol use instant on, that is where the radar is warmed up, but they don't turn it on till they are close, so your detector gives no warning. So when you haul ****, you got to pay attention to and hope you know what color your highway patrol cars are. Like in Utah, they are white, so you look for white crown vics with black bars on front bump. Nevada has dark blue highway patrol. California has different colors, black and white mix, etc. So if you don't travel out of your state alot, then it is easy to avoid a ticket. I speed everywhere, and never get pulled over because in addition to my Escort, I pay attention for anyone standing, underpasses, and for the highway patrol car colors in my area.

The k40 is actually the best one out right now, and least anoying. Three led lights that light up. All the sensors get mounted 360 degrees arround the car. By far the most expensive, however like usual you get what you pay for.

got a ticket 2 years ago with my 8500. was an instant on in a subdivision around a bend. low traffic area, so there was no way to avoid it. detector went off as he pulled the trigger. 34 in a 25.
problem with having a detector is that some cops will give a warning, but as soon as most see the detector, it's an instant ticket....

best advice is not to speed, or to make sure you're not the fastest car of the pack speeding..

The customized remote display was done by my friend Ansen. His site is www.audimods.com if its possible to have more made. He said its a pain in the **** when i got this one from hime.

As for the whole install, it was done by me. I do all the electronics on my car myself.

Here. Try this link. Its got pretty much all the options covered.

If a cop hits his K or Ka on any car within a very large distance from me, i'll get a warning. Even if its instant-on.

Heck... its even given me solid warning in canyons with lots of turns.
