Please unconfuse me about HID kits.

Well I just bought a new IX non SSL, thinking I could get a HID kit from XenonDepot or something. Then I've been searching and reading the housing of the non HID and OEM HID are different. I've heard mix reviews about HID kits. My question is do any of you really recommend the kits. I know the cutoff is not as good as OEM HID. Is it still going to be better than Silvania Silverstars halogen bulbs? What am I going to have to do so that I don't blind on coming traffic. Please give me some advice.
Thanks.

Just buying a set of HID's and stuffing them in a non HID ready housing won't do any thing for you. There will be tremondous glare, making it a hazard for other drivers to have to deal with seeing. either get the OEM or JDM housings that come equipped with HIDs or don't do it at all.

The beam pattern won't even be remotley close to what it should look like.

although this topic has been covered multiple times, i'll take another stab at it in hopes that in the future, people will learn how to properly search and have the patience to sift through dozens of threads.

yes. the 03-04 EVO's and the 05-06 SSL EVO's have OEM HIDs. The HID projector is very much different from Halogen projectors. Although the "glare" problem is apparent when just throwing in some cheap "HID kit" into halogen projectors, it's even more so if you do it to older headlight units, such as pre-'95 Hondas (they do not have those clear-type of headlights). There WILL be glare for oncoming traffic if you use the HID kit on a halogen projector, but it's not as bad as you may think, but it's there. also, aftermarket kits aren't exactly known for "quality."

if you're like me, who wanted to add HIDs in an OEM fashion, there are a few routes. personally, i like the gunmetal housing of my IX headlights. therefore, i bought an OEM kit, and 04 headlights, cracked open both pairs, and modified my housing to fit over the back of the 04 headlights. this gave me the oem cut-off i desired, as well as the clean look of having an OEM kit (i.e. no zip ties everywhere). you could also just buy a set of 03-04 headlights and just buy an oem kit. there's wiring that you have to figure out (not hard by any means), but it's pretty close to plug & play.

Indeed!

My last few cars have had HIDs, and I will never drive another car without them. 100x nicer, especially if you are in the rain.
