I beat every mr I come across. I am a stock evo 9 and I beat every stock evo mr. The evo mr is NOT faster than the gsr or the rs and whoever is saying that is hogwash.
People may have other perceptions but this is real life experience buddy. And it makes sense.
The evo rs is the fastest evo. DUH! because its like 200-300#'s lighter. You know it all goes back to hp/weight.

OP: i came from a 91 mr2 turbo as well (just sold her about 2 weeks ago )
the evo is A LOT quieter than my mr2 was on the highway, with the rpm slightly lower than the mr2 at 60 rpm (evo IX sits at 3000 flat i believe, whereas mr2 sits at 3200).
both car's 5th gear has plenty of power to pass people like nothing. my mr2 had bpu's, but the Evo's 5th gear is still a lot stronger.
the IX mr and gsr has almost identical gearings for the first 4 gears; the top speed of first four gears are pretty much the same; thus the 1/4 mile time is pretty much identical. the 5spd tranny in the GSR is a Getrag unit, which is pretty strong and can hold pretty good amount of power.
u wont be disappointed with either Evo IX model; it has 2 more doors, 2 more propelling wheels, and out accelerates and out handles the mr2 turbo. though i still miss my mr2t like crazy.....
good luck with ur choice.

0-60 the RS is the fastest by a few tenths.
1/4 mile the MR is the quickest by a 1/10th margin.
Ive only seen one test and thats the stats from it. Bottom line is run the cars 10x and you will get 10 different results. They are pretty much equal in the 1/4 mile.
The MR is the easiest Evo to live with from the factory.
