evo engine question
if i had an evo 4g63 with like 110,000 miles..the engine performance would not be as great as it came from the factory right???
if i were to build a motor, should i just spend that couple grand on a new engine or build that old engine with 0912039210913912 miles????
thanks

If you completely rebuild it and it has no cracks or compression problems it will be like new. As long as it is done properly. Have it professionally checked for cracks or out of tolerance cylinders.

im talking about a rebuild without having to change the block, maybe the head if i had too..but if i were to change the crank and all that wouldnt it be cheaper and relieving just to buy a brand new engine??

If your not having any kind of problems with it and you dont plan on adding anything to it, just leave it.
But, if you want to rebuild it just so its a brand new stock engine, yes it would probably be cheaper to buy a factory short/long block. If your gonna rebuild it so you can mod it further maybe with a turbo kit, you want to builld it up while the engine is apart. New/aftermarket crank, aftermarket rods, pistons, rings and bearings. Definately have the block honed or bored if it needs it.

The power on an engine with that mileage could be just as good provided that all of the supporting items in the engine bay are up to task, like plugs, wires, coils, fuel pump, injectors, intercooler (not coated with oil) etc.
The engine itself could be making perfect compression with 110k on it in which case it should be making good power.
Generally speaking you could rehone a non scored block and rebuild the block using factory bore pistons. If there was slight scoring you could do an off-the-shelf .020" overbore which is generally considered to be the go-to size on this motor, or even a .040 overbore which is still fine, the only potential detriment to doing so is that there's less sleeve thickness or cylinder wall thickness depending on your terminology and therefore less thermal mass, and less stiffness (which would probably never be tested on a street car)
I hope that answers your question.
bottom line is that a 110k engine, well maintained shouldn't be worn out.
