possibel remedy for slight 2nd gear grind.
#46
i have a 2nd to 3rd gear grind sometimes, but only when the engine's still cold.
i think the manual said that when the engine's still cold, just shift slowly, and once the car's been moving for a bit, and the tranny fluid gets through all the moving parts, then the shifter will shift much smoother.
this has been true for the 4700 miles i've put on my IX. if the grinding starts to appear in the future i will def. give this a try.
thanks to the OP

I've been getting quite a bit of 1->2 notchiness with my MR. I tried adjusting the clutch pedal height to get a little more disengagement from the clutch and going with Amsoil MTG, but neither helped much. What does definitely help though is allowing the shifter to momentarily pop over to the centered neutral position (the shift knob location when the tranny is in neutral with hands off the shift knob) as I shift from 1st to 2nd. When I do this, the shifter always slides smoothly into second gear. I understand trannys pretty well, and I can't think of a reason why this would help, but it does. I thought it might be just the fact that it takes longer to do this, but if I shift directly from 1st to 2nd slowly, 2nd gear is notchy again.
