Nothing specifically can void the warranty unless the dealer can prove without a reasonable doubt that the part caused the problem. Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975.

99% of the dealers will not give you the lite of day, I heard the dealers out in Cali are much nicer and more understanding about fixing cars with mods.

And after months of fighting while your car is still broken then you have to go to court and pay for court cost's. Which will more than just fixing it your self with an upgraded. Stock sucks especially when you own an EVO.

I'm pretty sure anything done to the motor, even exhaust, is excuse enough for them to void the warranty. Hell, I'm even worried about getting my ecu flashed.

Well, consider this: I've taken my 05 to the dealer twice in 5 months for warranty related issues. The 1st time I went in I had a tune, full 3" TBE w/TP,Injen intake kit,GFB BOV, Forge MBC, 255 walbro(you can hear it whine), I took it in for an oil leak. I told them what I had done to my car and that I take very good care of it and that I have a F250 7.3 Superduty that I modded w/ no issues @ 211,000 mi. They said that as long as the mod didn't cause the problem or that it wasn't from abuse they would take care of it. They kept their word and it was covered under warranty, they even provided a loaner car for two days.
2nd time was for a faulty starter. This time I had cams(280/272), MR headers & o2 housing and a AEM wideband AFR gauge. The car has a nice lumpy idle and has a very nice, unique exhaust sound due to the headers & exhaust. They wanted to give me a rental car as it was going to take 3-4 days as this was on a Thursday and my part wouldn't be in untill Mon/Tues. I ended up using another vehicle for a few days and only needed the rental 1 day. When I picked up my car it had been detailed inside & out, NO VOIDED WARRANTY!
So unless you abuse your car , are very young(sorry yougins, it sucks but thats life untill your over 25 you get hit harder), look punky or otherwise, you most likely wont have issues.
I even asked them about voided warranties and they said it does happen and is usually do to abuse, OR the guy came in with an attitude & was a jerk. They said the best thing was to be decent, honest and not act like they owed you something and you shouldn't have an issue. that doesn't mean you wont, but usually, if you are respectable , you'll be trated accordingly.
Remember, the burden is on the dealer to prove that what you did caused the failure!
