catback experience!

i was installing my catback system today, jacked the car up properly and turned out damn near all of the bolts from the cat and back are rusted the **** out of where WD40 doesnt do a thing and no matter what i could not even loosen one of the 20 bolts under the car at full strength. any suggestions or should i jsut go to a shop and have them use airtools?

i suggest you using airtool for do the job,easier and faster.

if you take your ratchet and put it on the nut and take a hammer and hit it a few times it will break free. also soak it with penetrating oil...something other then wd-40... they sell it at autozone or pep boys... works great. i had the same problem.

I had to use an electronic impact wrench to get those bolts off, my car isn't even a year old and they were so rusty I couldn't believe it!

Penetrating lube and an impact gun will get it done.

That happened to me aswell, so what i did was take out the whole exhaust including the downpipe and then loosen when it was out from under the car, more leverage when standing up then laying on you back.

you could try putting a length of pipe on the end of your wrench/ratchet for more leverage. something that will slip over the tool and extend it....if you have the room under the car that is...along with some better penetrating oil.

Thats what I did with mine. I put a cooper pipe that was laying around my garage and put it over the ratchet. Worked perfectly and took those suckers off easily

I would also suggest an impact wrench it will save you the heartache .... i tried to do it with a breaker bar but was really scared that I was going to break my downpipe from all the stress that I was putting onto it when trying to break torque.... if you cant get to an impact wrench then spray a lot of penetrating oil onto it and leave it to sit over night then try the breaker bar and a quick swing with the hammer idea.... that's what we do all the time when working on helicopters....good luck

Let it soak overnight. Likely it will free up instead of heating or cutting.
