If you dont redline your car every chance you get and the air around you is relatively clean, 5k miles is not a lot.

Not to be rude but let's not forget the manual that came with the car. It answers a lot of basic questions, like the grade/type of oil to use, or the replacement # for the fog lamps. Then again not everyone has a copy of the manual, that's why forums exists

Its up to you, mobil1 in there should last till 3000miles
i'll be switching to dino oil for 1st oil change, got some blow by and hopefully that will break in the engine a bit more and lessen it

Fck that free maintenance bs. I took my car in a few times and they didn't even use synthetic in the engine. In the manual, it says synthetic is recommended, if I'm not mistaken. Dealership oil changes suck.

I changed my oil at 2000 miles and now i will change it again at 4000 miles... That's my interval... 350-40 the cost of oil is nothing compared to the well being of my engine...
My first oil change was the 10w30 mobil, but now i am thinking of using either redline, or amsoil, or Castrol Syntec... Another one that i am thinking of is the Motul 300V but i think its a 5w30, but i think that i won't have a problem because now its winter and i change it very often...
I will decide in a month or so when the time comes...

You really don't need to change your oil every 2000 miles. In fact, it probably does more harm than good to change that often since motor oils don't operate at their full potential until a few hundred miles into its service life.
Im thinking about switching to german castrol next time too, but there doesn't seem to be much info about it on these forums.

What dealership did you go to? All Mitsu dealers should be using Mobil 1 Synthetic for Evo oil changes. I'm guessing that Mitsubishi Japan tested the living crap out of the Evo using Mobil 1 and it evidently passed its tests for it to be recommended by Mitsu and literally printed on the oil filler cap. Mitsu has recommended Mobil 1 for the Evo since its launch here in 2003. Other high end synth oils are good also(Red Line, Royal Purple, NEO, etc).
I would also highly discourage anyone from trying dino oil in the car. There is one entire page in the owners manual devoted to letting the owner know NOT to use reg motor oil. It makes it clear that you could do damage to the turbocharger and other engine components. This high-strung engine does not need reg motor oil.

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on using oil additives and octane boosters?
