Changed mine at about 770 miles (after the break-in period), and again when I put it away for the winter at 3269.
I'll change it again in April when it comes out of winter storage, and then again before/after each time I get to take it to the road course (hopefully once a month or so over the summer), as well as again when it goes away next winter.
Maybe it's excessive, maybe not; but the cost of an oil change is small compared to the cost of an entirely new engine. I'd much rather err on the side of caution.

They don't touch the oil because it is Fully Synthetic. Ask any dealer.

I owned a Dodge SRT-4 before my Evo IX. I broke it in for 1000 miles on the original oil that came when I bought it. I them switched over to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and started changing my oil at 5000 mile intervals. After 50,000 miles of drag racing, autocross, and hard driving with the MOPAR stage 2 + full turbo back exhaust, I had zero oil consumption and the motor and seals were like brand new. The guy that bought it from the dealership where I traded it in ran it through deep water and hydrolocked the motor. The cylinders had virtually no wear on them when the motor was torn apart. DOH!

I dont see why people would be cheap and not go with full synthetic oils (Mobil 1). To fill up a tank of gas costs you just as much if not more than a oil change. Tank of gas lasts you only 200+ miles. Oil change lasts you 3,000 miles give and take.

I live in California. Doesnt get ultra hot or icy cold. My car is garaged at home and work. So I use 10-30 all year round.
