depreciation of the IX when the X comes out?

i still dont see where you guys are getting the idea that the 4G63 will no longer be used in Evo X...
if i remeber correctly for the vehicle to be used in WRC a total of 25000 production units have to be sold...
and so far as per advertisemnts for Evo X i see a 2.0l engine with MiVEC rated at 300hp....which will still make it a 4G63 ....
and not a global engine which is is based on a 4G69 2.4l;

Just buy a IX. There's already a good amount of modding you can do and the 4G63 is tried and true. It will take quite awhile for any X specific mods to be tested and proved worthy.

To get some of the info out there for you, I work for mitsubishi in orlando,fl and a proud owner of a 2003 gsr, yes they are coming out with the evo se differences you are looking at would be 2 different rim styles an aero kit and triming inside will be different also they are going to include the gauges the MR has already. The Evo X will not be coming till early mid 2008, looking at a different car overall. Engine block is aluminum no more cast iron rumors so far have been HP between 325-350. I belive that the X will just increase the value of the IX and allot of people would be wanting them. Overall it will be a new product for mitsu coming out with the X trying to stay away from the racing look and more of a higher class of style and more appealing to those who do not want the racer look. All I can say is that I would need to see one to pass judgement on them. When and if I get any more info or specs on it I will pass it on to everyone. If anyone is looking to buy and evo let me know, we are getting about 17 SE and that is it for the IX! Also, we have a couple of used ones in stock a yellow 2003 with 19k mint condition turbo timer and exaust and a 2005 electric blue 10k and in mint condition as well.

I agree completely. They are really changing the EVO so much that I think a lot of the old school guys wont even follow it. I feel like only 30% of current EVO owners would get the new one. The new EVO is likely to attract new buyers more so than repeat.
Therefore, I think the VIIIs/IXs will always hold their own in regards to depreciation. Keep in mind there are not a lot of VIII/IXs out there really and with people crashing them, stolen, stripped the number of 4G63 EVOs will only go down, driving up the price.

so maybe we'll end up in with the same fate as the Acura Integra Type-R's and the Honda Civics?

The future value of the Ix's and VII's will depend heavily on whether the X will live up to expectations. If its a flop then people will go back to the old Evo's therefore raising thier values.

I hate to be the one to say it, but we own a frickin Mits. They are one of the worse cars to own for depreciation. If you really think that you own a car that's going to retain any value I want some of whatever you're smoking. Look at how cheap South Coast Mits is selling the EVO's for. I am willing to bet they are hitting EVO's at least 5k back of book. Call any dealership to find out for yourself. I know a lot of you guys are thinking I am the one who is smoking crack, but if you really want to know what the value of your car is, call around to few dealerships and ask what they would buy your car for. You can always hide #'s on a "trade-in" so ask them what it's "really worth" and you will then find out how correct I am.
