clicking noise in reverse ?

anybody else have it and know what the click noise is when going in reverse? sometimes i hear a single click and sometimes its like 3 or 4 clicks when going in reverse (most frequently happens when turning the wheel while reversing). Transfer case i would think but i just want to know if its "normal" so i can stop worrying.

i was about to start a thread about this also. its really annoying and mine sometimes comes from the back and sometimes from the front (i think). it happens just like you said, when going in reverse with the wheel turned or after going reverse with braking and clutching in (to go into first). i was just thinking it was normal since the car makes a lot of noises as it is, but its just so annoying and kind of getting me worried also. any help would be very appreciated. thanks.

mine does this as well when I bog the clutch a little. if you ride the clutch it does not happen. 1st gear turning will start to do it too. noise went away after a tranny and syncro oil change but came back quickly. noise comes from the back right i believe. dink!!

You guys sure it's not the CV joints? I have an '03 with 52k miles and it's never made any 'clicking' noises.

I wonder if it's the ACD, because mine's never done it and I'm of the old school '03 8s.

I created a thread about it as well, I guess its normal. But yeah, whenever I push in the clutch while in reverse, I get a loud single click as well.

you guys think it could it be some kind of release to let the ACD roll in reverse ? im just curious as to what it is so that when passangers ask "what the hell did you just run over" i have something to say instead of "yeah that was my brand new $30k car but its normal"

make sure you turn it all the way, start experimenting with it. full stop, turn knob to the right all the way then down reverse. at least thats how i got rid of mines.
