OK, I've tried searching but...

I need some input here. This is going to sound strange because it's hard to describe. I will try to put it in words to the best of my ability:

When I shift hard out of 1st gear to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd sometimes (again, I dont know what triggers this) I hear an "engine revving" noise before I hear my BOV "whoosh." Normally, I should just hear my BOV going off instantly after I shift.

Anyone know what's causing this or if this is just normal?

Any help would be great.

wastegate.

its what bleeds off the excess turbo pressure to prevent overboosting. sounds sort of like revving before you would shift

Yes! It sounds like revving before the BOV goes off. So tell me it's normal so I can sleep better tonight =)

Is it me, or does this cause you to shift a bit slower?

of course its normal. if it didnt do that you would make boost until something blew up.

Normal? I've never even heard of what MBaran is talking about. There should be no sound coming from your wastegate and no revving noise when you shift. Not sure where that came from. Maybe if you had an external wastegate, then all that excessive noise under boost would make sense, but by no means should you randomly hear the wastegate. I'm not saying the wastegate doesn't open in order to regulate the boost, but I have no idea how you'd hear it. I've certainly never heard mine, and there should be nothing slowing down your shifting.

There is some other problem here that must be diagnosed. Didn't you say this happens WHEN you shift? As in, you press the clutch, hear the "rev" noise, then the whoosh, then you go into the next gear? That sounds like an awful long time. If I shift quickly like when drag racing, the time between the two is mere milliseconds with only enough time for a quick chirp from the BOV. Are you talking about daily driving and slow shifting?

but to recap. i can hear my IX's wastegate. I know exactly when it kicks in. kthx

I can't hear my wastegate, all that I hear is my turbo.

RNM, I think that's what they're referring to. You can hear the WG start to open, especially if you do a part throttle slow building of boost. It goes woooooooOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSHHH, etc, which is the sound of the turbo spooling, but you can hear the WG opening. However, that sounds nothing like the engine revving, and it by NO MEANS happens after the shift.
