ya i went there and had to put down a deposit of $182 so i went out side and checked the codes, returned the scanner and got my money back.
how much would it cost to just buy a scanner?

You can get a very basic inexpensive one for $40 or less.. Or you can get other products that vary in price..
You can actually get a cable that can both reflash your car, and be used as an OBD-II scanner, but its still evolving and may take some time to be complete, but its worth the money and effort if you do want to work on your car at some point in the future.. Otherwise just pick up an inexpensive handheld reader that can read and reset the codes..

Walmart has scanners for 60 bucks. Also if you bring your car there and tell them the car is in the parking lot they will pull your code(s) for you right there, no need to put down a deposit
