To answer your question, yes you can tap it into the O2 sensor.
With that out of the way, I agree with these guys, it doesnt do anything for you unless you just like to look at the pretty light flicker back and forth. Get a wideband.

There's a really good install thread I referenced this weekend when I hooked up mine:

I used a wiretap into the white wire.
Although I kind of have to agree with the above posters.. i pretty much have a gauge that has a pretty light bouncing back and forth lol.
O well I bought the gauge a few years ago and decided to still use it. Oil pressure might have been a better buy imo.

You might be better off with an EGT gage or something.. the narrowband gages are basically useless.. At least on the Evo because its O2 sensor is just so slow to sample..
FWIW the flashing light you see is the closed loop fueling.. The big problem is you just can't tune with it, most are calibrated to show values at WOT, unfortunately I think there are only a few 10ths of a volt in that area which makes it not in any way fast or accurate enough to be useful...
You'd be much better off with a clock in that unused opening.. hehe.. Oil Temp might be a good alternative, since that is a good bit of data to monitor and its a fairly inexpensive gage.
