On the ticket, it should list the statute that he says you broke. Go and do a google search to find the page your state has which lists your laws, then look that statute up. Often times the cop will write a ticket for one thing that is not what the law is for.
Example - I was written a ticket about 6-7 years ago for "spinning tires from a stop". I looked the statute up - it was for "illegal start from a stopped position endangering pedestrians". There were no pedestrians present, and my car had traction control, so the judge threw the ticket out.
Do your homework. Wear a suit. Be prepared. That's how you win tickets.

What section are you accused of violating? Only thing I found is a possible violation of Chapter 246 sections 14-80 or -80a, and even then it is a $150.00 fine. Unless I missed something else in the Statutes. Hope this helps!

write up a BS letter from a mitsu dealer saying that you have verified the exhaust to be original equipment or just pay a service guy $50 to have it put onto a mitubishi letterhead and to sign it. Trust me... the DMV will NOT know the difference.

Would NOT recommend this approach. All it will do is potentially get you in MORE trouble. Take the advice of previous posters....do your homework and fight it in court.

damn $225? I know when I got my "loud exhaust" tickets I plead guilty to one of them and it only cost me $80 dollars. The other one I showed up to court and the trooper said if I would have taken it off by the court date he would have dropped the charge. I was hoping he woundn't show up, but don't count on that because cops love to get their over-time in.

You guys really need to lay off the cop-bashing. There are a few a-holes just like anywhere, but most of them are copetent and would jump in a second to save your **** if you needed help. They get the crap job of enforcing the laws, and some of them go overboard, but don't over-generalize it to all cops. They get paid a crap wage to do what they do and put their ***** on the line for justice.
