Guys --- it's not the sun. I addressed that issue already with a baseball cap in the car to see if shielding it would work. It didn't --- it was just as hot.
I think it's the recipe of: black tarmac parking lot + 100 plus degree heat + transmission/drivetrain heat. All radiating up into the shift knob!

I park directly in the sun, cover my greddy CW shift knob with a hat, and it still gets hotter than the black leather recaros.
What surprised me was that even in direct sunlight, the seats never really get that hot. I get in wearing shorts all the time and they just feel "warm".

Maybe it's hot to you because you're not using the proper shifting techniques that'll eventually cause you to crash your car and die. You should read a "driving for dummies book".

1. Shut knobs do indeed get hot and the heat's impact can be minimized by using a shifting technique geared to limit the contact between one's hand and the knob.
2. The "driving for dummies book" you refer to is Bob Bondurant on High Performance Driving:

Damn, and i was gonna say take it inside to. I need to find out how to take my steering wheel inside, the black leather gets pretty hot, it cools down faster than that aluminium shift nob i guess.

So it's not just the knob? The heat carries through the whole shifter? How hot is the parking lot pavement that it can travel up through the car and focus it's energy at the peak of the knob? Sounds like a vindictive car to me. Do you anger it before you park?
And lmao at the 100% chrome knob in the desert.
