Yeah, I know what you're saying. I just thought the comment was funny because it's the complete opposite of what an Evo is really like to tune.

Automobile Mag actually corrected their misstatement in a follow-up issue to the one with the Evo's 2004 COY Award. They posted a letter to the editor by a knowlegdable 4G63 guy who told them the motor had tons of tuning potential and that there where actually quite a few 400-500 hp Evo's roaming around.

Automobile Mag has also followed up with annual "best in category" awards for Evo and, along with R&T and SCC, they have been consistenty praised the Evo as a very special car. But, if you want to read the absolute best car mag prose about the Evo, you have to buy the UK Evo Magazine (name is a coincidence). The latest issue has an FQ340 IX in a comparison test with a Porsche Carrera GT and new 911 Turbo. The Evo was in there as "everyman's supercar". A couple of other nugget quotes are calling the Evo "the car snob's worst nightmare" and "leaving the Carrera GT for dead" on some rally stage type roads in Wales. The guys that write for this mag live, eat, and breath cars and every test they conduct includes lapping their own road course. The Carrera GT they tested is owned by one of their editors/contibutors and is included in their long-term test stable of cars.

someone with a highly modified Evo should loan their car to AMag for a day as a followup to that article!

I have a copy of that very issue on my desk still. Of all the US car rags for adults (not Superstreet or tooner mags), they have beem the most consistant in their praise and support of the EVO.

"Car snobs worst nightmare" is awsome
